I'm flying on an early morning flight from Gatwick next month and have a hotel booked at the airport the night before. Rather than eating at the hotel, I'm looking at breaking our journey from the midlands and having dinner somewhere not too far away before we check in.

Any recommendations? Needs to be somewhere north of Gatwick ideally, as that's the direction we'll be coming from. Looking for somewhere family friendly, country pub type of place ideally.

The Harvester that used to be in Salfords is being turned into a Miller and Carter as we speak, so that might suit your needs. 3.5 miles north up the A23.

Have eaten here before when I was nearby, it's not far from the airport - http://thecuriouspigintheparlour.com/

That just reminded me of having to go to Redhill Kebab van about 18 years ago to buy a shirt as it was a requirement to get into their awful nightclub and I wasnt wearing one. Did feel a bit odd asking for a shirt at a kebab van!

Is Harry's kebab van still there I wonder?

I left Redhill years ago, but when forced to go back, always get a litre of the sauce from the shop opposite the Ford dealer.

Ancient pub, good food, good choice of beers, beside the River Mole, maybe 1 1/2 miles north of Gatwick, just off the A23.....this may what you're looking for:

Me and 5 mates have lunch there regularly.

Not sure if you coming A1/M1/M40, but from M40 the fat duck at Bray is nice.

Last time we flew from Gatwick, spent a very sunny afternoon here and the food was pretty decent too:

Might be a bit close to the Airport, but was ideal for me.

Just off the A22 https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g2...

But if you hadn't said pub I'd go to the Thai just down the road. https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g2...

Lots of parking at both and not really much of a detour off the M23 route.

Many thanks for the recommendations, the place at Charlwood seems to be the leading contender at the moment.

I like The Pheasant at Buckland, http://www.brunningandprice.co.uk/pheasant

In fact I drive past the Half Moon to go there!

My choice would be The Running Horses @ Mickleham.

I would second the Six Bells and the Pig in the Parlour. Not a pub, but there is an excellent Indian nearby: http://www.jaihorestaurants.com

We tried the Curious Pig in the Parlour in the end, it was just what we were after. Thanks for all the recommendations.
