Being a bit disorganised, but might go on holiday next month. Eurotunnel are coming up very expensive in May compared to DFDS, but what are their crossings really like? Haven't been on a boat other than the Irish Sea for about 8 years.

All the cross channel ferries are much of a muchness in my experience.

DFDS do routes to both Dunkerque and Calais from Dover, so take into account the extra travel time if there are any seemingly good discounts on the Dunkerque route.

Having done quite a few channel crossings in the last few years, I tend to prefer DFDS to P&O, and Dunkerque rather than Calais. The Dunkerque route is 1/2hr longer but tends to feel less busy usually, as they're the only operator into Dunkerque. Back when it was Maersk-owned, they didn't allow coaches so there were no coach-loads of kids running amok like you get with P&O, not sure if that's still the case. The ships were newer and nicer than P&O, though last time I went on them they were starting to look a bit tired.

DFDS to Calais ships have been recently refurbed, the P&O 'spirit' ships are new(ish) and nice, their other 'pride' ones are quite old now.
