Boys are planning a trip away for a week to visit Qatar and Dubai. Has anyone got any experience of what we can do/see over there please?

Unless it's a work trip you really should reconsider.

It's truly horrible in July. You won't be able to do anything outside at all.

Edit: in suppose you could just absolutely on it every night and then sleep all day.

Night golf?

There's a reason everyone goes to London in July & August....& this is it.

Dubai maybe but why are they going to Qatar? it's pushing 45 degrees & unless you have experienced it you don't realise how horrendous it is. There's very little to do there & even the bars are all in hotels. I can think of no reason to visit i the summer unless it's for work.

Ramadan starts on May 27th so all the bars will be closed in Qatar.

Still mega hot and difficult to do stuff outside but more doable.

What do 'the lads' like to do?

I worked in Qatar over a summer a few years ago. Vowed never to go back. As others have said, it is horrendous. The heat was incredible, the humidity made it even worse.

Complete hole of a place, though I believe it's improved a little in he intervening years. I remember reading in the 'local' paper at the time that tourism had increased by 500% in one year. Sounds good until you read the figures; in 1988 there were 10 visitors, 1989 there were 50....

If you like nice hotels it can be a nice break.

I did some work over there and had a great holiday with the family over new year.

Beach, hotel, pool. Decent restaurants.

Not many places less suited to a lads trip though.

Just back from Doha, visited friends for a week. We usually just hung out at the pool during the day and did duppers in the evening. Oryx Rotana does a steak dupper (4 hours of all the steak you can eat and drink you can drink) and intercontinental in the city does a nice dupper too. We hung out at The Al Sharq village at the swim up pool some of the days. 100 QAR to enter. At night time the Pearl is a cool place for something to eat and car spotting.

I was working for QGPC so spent much of my time on Halul Island with the occasional trip ashore. If you didn't know anyone in town it was pointless. No bars, nowhere to go, nothing to see.

Not the best time in my career.

I was in Umm Said building the NGL facility as part of the original North Field project.

A boys trip to Qatar, why?

It's a soulless place and very expensive if you like a drink.

Please reconsider.

I travel there regularly on business and am always relieved to leave the place. I try and limit my stay to one day.

been on business, it's a horrible place and even overlooking all of the human rights issues I wouldn't go.

Dubai is OK, no idea why you'd go to Qatar though.

Been Dubai and Abu Dhabi many times and always enjoyed it. Thought Qatar could be similar. Might have to wait now until the end of the year or something else.

It's nothing like Dubai. Most people I know who live in Doha come to Dubai regularly. The opposite does not ring true.

Take Dubai marina. Surround it by an industrial estate. That's Doha.
