Looking for somewhere - ideally coastal for a short break - couple of nights.

Me, wife & 6 month old.

Unfortunately coastal for us usually means the East coast - Skegness up to Whitby.

We've done them all a million times and lets face it - outside of the nicer bits of Whitby etc they're all a bit of a dive.

So where are we missing? - Norfolk? Heard Hunstanton is meant to be pleasant?

Guess it doesn't have to be coastal but would be preferred.

This is a little longer than two hours, but I live in Lichfield, so not that far from you, and got to Aberdyfi in Mid-Wales in 2hr 10m last week, without driving like a nutter.

Hunstanton is just like Skegness. Wells on the Sea is nicer but may be outside the 2 hour limit. Jump on a plane and you could be somewhere nice in 2 hours smile

Lytham St Annes?

Does it have to be the coast? I'd rather go to the Yorkshire Dales or Lake District.

It doesn't have to be, no.

Not really looking for a city break though.

Living as far from the sea as you can possibly get does have its drawbacks.

Blakeney in Norfolk is nice and only a bit over 2hrs but there are places to stop on the way.

North Norfolk coast is very nice, with Brancaster, Holkham & Wells next the Sea some suggestions

Only a short break so fairly relaxed on that.

Self catering lodge / cottage, b&b or fancy hotel are all acceptable. Max £200ish / night prob.

Although I've only eaten in the restaurant, the White Horse in Brancaster Staithe gets rave reviews, and is in a fantastic location on the marshland. I think it's in budget too but they don't have many rooms.

I could recommend a campsite in Brancaster I've actually stayed at if that was your bag.

A favourite bolt hole for us is The Case in Assington, Suffolk but perhaps a bit further than two hours' drive. Lots to see and do in the area, coast isn't too far.

I'll second The White Horse, the deck looks out over the Marshes, Direct access to the coast path, and some rooms have their own entrance with a small shared patio. Great for walkers and doggers. wink

Peak District.

Loads to do.

Make sure you visit Chatsworth.
Take bikes and do some of the trails. Very family friendly.
Hope, Castleton, Hathersage, Bakewell ......

Maybe take in Matlock Bath on way home.

We have stayed here a couple of times...

That is stumbling distance to the The Lifeboat Inn.

Nice pub to stay at...

Another of my favourites...

The Victoria at Holkham is also nice, but prefer the others above personally...
