Benidorm Opinions?
Discussion
Got chatting to a delivery driver at work a while back who was explaining excitedly about his upcoming 2 weeks in Benidorm. He was going to stay in the actual hotel that the tv programme "benidorm" is filmed at - he actually said "we've booked in there, that way you know it's gonna be proper class".
I wanted to cry into my hands.
I'd rather spend a week dodging bullets in Mosul than go to Benidorm.
OP - what made you want to try it?

It's a major attraction for Northerners. Won't find many (if any) Southerners there at all. If you want to shag some overweight bint from Geordieland who's there on a hen do then Benidorm's your hunting ground.
The fact that they sell mushy peas at many places along 'the strip' should tell you all you need to know.

Some pretty shocking reviews here!
Alright, it does have loads of fat people, yes, there are no end of irish / english bars playing constant re-runs of only fools and horses, and yes, it does get a bit rowdy.
But....here are a few positives if I may....
1) its cheap - food and drinks prices are more than reasonable
2) Its got a nice beach - try snorkelling around 50m from the beach, there is some lovely marine life.
3) er....thats about it I think

I'm off to Benidorm for our works annual Xmas weekend on the piss.
Either this is a clever trick to reduce staff numbers rather than pay redundancy or you work in poundland. We go away every year, Amsterdam last year, Lanzarote the year before, Dublin the year before that. It's a good way to have a break from it all after a busy year, certainly better than a night in an overpriced German market drinking an outrageously expensive beer in the rain anyway

Hear very mixed opinions on Benidorm, However I fancy giving it a try..
Looking to go for a week with the mrs, Whats your guys experiences?
With the Mrs? I'd choose any of the following in preference:Looking to go for a week with the mrs, Whats your guys experiences?
Villajoyosa
Calpe
Altea
Moraira
Xabia/Javea
Denia
and even possibly Benissa (bit inland).
All the above are within easy reach of Benidorm to sample it, and, like Benidorm, are all readily accessible via the motorway.
In season Benidorm's just a nightmare. Out of season, not so much.
i went for one night as some mates and I were staying about 45 min along the coast. One night was enough - i mean we had a great laugh mostly in an ironic way but i couldn't imagine being there for a week, and during the day it must be horrific. Saw 4 generations of the same family out on the piss quite regularly... plenty of mobility scooters. Felt a bit threatened by groups of roydy blokes looking like they are aching to floor someone. Also if you stay up late enough then you will get mugged by transexual prostitutes. Fortunately we had deliberately left wallets and phones behind at our house, and had spent up all cash.

Actually during the day it's not too bad, most are on the beach sleeping off the night before, it's the night time that's horrific.Melman Giraffe said:
From what i recall the Old town is nice with some decant Tapas bars full of Spanish Locals, apart from that its a st hole
This is true IMO. Same applies to Marbella; avoid the front line and stick to the old parts of town and there are some nice Spanish bars and restaurants. Certainly not the picture painted by the Brits abroad stereotype. That said, I would be minded to head a few miles up the coast and avoid the cliched types. Altea, Calpe, Javea, Denia etc. If you don't want the coast you could even head in to the Jalon valley a little. May be a little quiet however if you want a town or city.
You could do far worse than Valencia - great city and a lot to do whilst remaining largely un-tourist heavy.

Thats not a fair picture in my experience. The angle makes it look like every parasol is touching the one next to it.
