Benidorm Opinions?
Discussion
I’ve got a place 20 miles south of Benidorm and admittedly haven’t been there in high season, but have visited a few times for the day. I expected to hate the place, but going with no expectations and with an eye on people watching, I quite like it. We did keep to nicer looking bars on the beach front though.
We’ll be doing a boys trip to my place in August and will doubtless venture up for an afternoon and evening. I may have a different opinion after that.
For a nice meal at expensive for Benidorm, but good value I can recommend D-Vora.
This was the beach viewed from D-Vora in April. I’d expect it to be similar in November.

I was trying to remember the name of the place we ate up there-it was a little bit further round that same area or possibly next door looking directly out to the sea. I went to Benidorm, for the first time, in May for 3 nights. Had a great apartment with a sea view, one row back from Levante Beach for very little money.
Levante is the "strip" end so it can be noisy at night though the noise proofing was reasonably good.
Hired a car but wish I hadn't, you don't need one. Red lights in the centre last forever.
Things I discovered.
1. Benidorm rakes in money so is spotlessly clean and the beach is cleaned every night. The beach was crowded but very nice and the sea was clean. You're not allowed to smoke on the beach either.
2. The streets and shops are clean and pleasant, during the day. Old Town is a nice walk (look out for the crazy white pigeons if you feed them) and the quieter end so the end to stay if you don't want the bump thump of the strip.
3. There are two sides to Benidorm and they survive alongside each other. So you have the Benidorm Palladium, for example, which does quality karaoke to 8 then various tribute acts thereafter. This is next to the Black Chicken which is small but like an asylum for the insane on 20 pints.
4. Late night is like the walking dead rising up. We tried a comedy venue but Tony Scott was as funny as the clap but there are many other choices though they can be very rowdy. The Fat Freddie Mercury tribute was pretty bad.
5. It is the world capital of mobility scooters.
6. One restaurant in the front looked reasonable but the bill included 5 Euros for bread rolls we didn't ask for.
We are returning for 4 nights, next week, planning to enjoy the beach by day, the quality karaoke 2 until 8 and then a meal. We plan to avoid the noisy crappy joints altogether. Our apartment in July is smaller, nearer the Old Town and seasonally more expensive but flights to the Canaries have now passed the "stupid" mark so Benidorm offers weather and at least some entertainment, if you are selective.
This time, we're catching the bus from the airport which is around a tenner per person, each way.

Its not for me
the way i see it, it stops them going where i go, so fair enough, and who am i to judge,
benidorm and dubai are both places id never go to
benidorm
no teeth, loads of tattoos,
dubai,
teeth with their own postcode, loads of tattoos,
one is full of peasants, and the other is full of peasants who bought their council house and lease a car and think theyve made it in life
but like i said who am i to judge?
they serve a certain type of person well and as long as they enjoy it then good luck to them

Go, you will love it if in the right frame of mind.
Don't go with any attitude and take it for what it is, and the people who frequent it. I was unsure on my first visit but once you get over this initial shock it is really quite good. Genuine people having their cheap holiday in the sun and determined to have a great time.
Benidorm, like Blackpool, doesn't give a toss what you think of it. If you want culture, art, architecture or fine dining don't bother. If you want to go and have a cheap laugh in the sun then it's right up your street. Benidorm, NFsG.

went a few years ago one January in an all inclusive break thing for 4 days. stayed at the top of the high street (10 mins walk from beach), out the way of the "action", in a hotel that was mainly german tourists. room was nice, food was bad, drink was fine. we had a mini heatwave 20ish every day so was very pleasant, and not many nobs about so was quite pleasant in that regard too, but Still lively enough for a good night out. I imagine it is very different in summer.
We love watching ‘bargain lovin brits’ and always give it a wide birth on the way to Malaga for winter..
It is the perfect half way stop for us though and there’s a lovely 5* Asian style hotel just off the main motorway at benidorm, really nice hotel, worth a stay if you’re passing by.

I have been 3 times this year. Whatever "type" goes there doesn't mean you have to become one with the Borg. I am a retired barrister.
First accommodation (May)was Levante beach end, 10 floors up. Very nice apartment, manageable noise.
Second (June) was Olivia Apartments in Old Town. Lovely apartment, quite bohemian that end but god,bit was got, 32 degrees and no wind but we had ac.
Third time (September) was also hot but we had a not brilliant apartment not too far from the strip. This proved very noisy, especially on the weekend when the hotel behind was blasting out some sort of disco but it was still pleasant by day.
I would recommend avoiding weekends and going Wednesday to Friday and staying nearer the Old Town. More walking but worth it for the quiet.

Why on earth do you have Benidorm as your first choice given the type of break it sounds as though you are keen on (and the factors that disappointed on some trips)?First accommodation (May)was Levante beach end, 10 floors up. Very nice apartment, manageable noise.

I can think of a million better starting points for that sort of break rather than sifting through Beni in the hope of finding that Oasis of non-trashy.

If you avoid the walking dead, it's a perfectly nice, clean resort (far cleaner than the Canaries) offering great weather and cheap flights. Having been 3 times, this year, I have also been to the Canaries 5 times because rather than have one expensive holiday, alongside equally unbearable people who think they are special, I can have 8 for the same price. :ROFL:I can think of a million better starting points for that sort of break rather than sifting through Beni in the hope of finding that Oasis of non-trashy.
Even just heading along the coast to Villajoyosa or Altea/moraira/Javea/Denia or even south of Alicante to Torre would surely be preferable at a similar price point?
I don’t mind Beni for exactly what it is and will always be, but can’t imagine using it as a base for anything other than a trashy kiss me quick piss up.
