We rent from a Spanish friend in Lajares who does us a cracking deal on her holiday villa so haven't even looked at anywhere else in FV for at least the last ten years now. We're pretty easy on dates and times and don't usually take any hold luggage so flights are with whoever gets us there and back the cheapest, and that's nearly always Ryanair.

Sometimes we'll have a week or two in FV on our own then get the ferry to Lanzarote for another week in Playa Blanca meeting up with the kids and grandchildren then fly back from there. There's car hire offices in both sea ports so no need for faffing with taxis or buses.

We've got our own annual CDW policy so car hire is basic no frills contract on a bottom of the range hatchback with whoever comes out with the best deal after a bit of Googling. That sometimes means you end up with a battered old Clio with a generous rash of chips and scratches which might develop a vague whiff of sick inside if you leave it baking in the sun all day but so long as it goes that suits me just fine.

Looking to book a 10 day break Early November.

Good grief, the prices for LZ haven't half gone up.

It's looking cheaper to go P&O and take a cruise around the Med.

Monarch's demise has hit budget flight prices. I've heard.

Not half - I go to Gib with work a lot using Monarch although Squeezyjet started going direct from Manchester. Last time I saw some Squeezyjet flights (they're gone now) it was £600 + which is bonkers.

I'm going in 3 weeks and I've got to go via Malaga which is a pain in the arse.

What? This November? eek

You're looking way, way to late to get the deals now. Mrs JS gets the whole thing done - flights, car hire, airport parking and villa - and dusted within hours of the flight dates being released for when we next want to go 'cos that's where the deals are and they go very quickly.

In any case demand for the Canaries has gone up in the last couple of seasons due to the threat of terrorist activity in other winter sun resorts which has pushed prices up too and the fall of the £ against the Euro hasn't helped either.

It's not that long ago we'd go self catering with two teenage kids and a car including flights for about £100 to £125 a day all in. *sigh*

As others have said, you've left it too late for a cheap break now. November is always popular so theres going to be few bargains about this late.

Conversely we've booked for 11 days next March - £300 for the two return flights via Jet2, £50 a night for a really nice apartment right in the Playa Blanca resort booked via AirBnB. Thats £425 each for a 12 day break beer

Spot on. Dug out last year's emails and the others are capitalising on having fewer competitors.

Ryanair are offering some deals, but really, can you trust them.....................?

That would make it a no brainer for me if you're looking a cheap break.

Unfortunately here in NI we never see flight prices like that to the Canary Islands frown

Ended up in Cyprus in early December. Lovely during the day, a bit nipped at night.

Lanzarote here we come (Jet2) in three weeks or so!

Interesting, I thought Simon the original owner held the rights to the lease and the current owners Peter (I think ... ) just run the business, well own the business but the lease.
its a great little bar but i'm not sure its worth 175k, any idea why the current owners are giving it up ?

We went with a villa from ownersdirect.co.uk - they only took £100 deposit at this stage and its cancellable up until Nov 18. AirBnB were looking full payment and wasnt cancellable.

I've been to lanzaotte a few times over the years. Including one time surfing off Famara (?) beach. Rubbish as I was.
The last time I went was a late deal with a mate as we both do contract work but were between jobs. Got to Gatwick about 530am and faced hoards of people getting annoyed.
It was the day of the Icelandic volcano and flights were cancelled, including ours (easyJet).
However, we overhead someone talking commenting that they think Thomson were still flying.
Went to their desk, asked about lanzarotte and they said yes and had seats. Paid there and then and took off only a couple of hours later than our original flight, and got money back on original flights.
Yes there's some things to see there, but not much. It's ok for cheap Sun. I prefer having somewhere to wander round and things to see. Can only stay beach or poolside for so long.

In fairness to them, they have done well for tourist things to do given its a big volcanic rock off the coast of Africa. hehe

If we're looking for culture and / or places to wander around then, no, we dont go to Lanzarote. Its somewhere we go for a relaxing holiday. We're not pool siders or sun worshippers, so its mostly relaxing at the villa where we stay or down in a bar and watch the world go by. We did a private wine vineyard tour last time around the island and a Segway tour along Papagayo beach. Oh and walked up Montana Roja. All touristy things but enough to amuse us the odd day smile Planning on doing the off road buggies next time and the camel ride i think.

We stayed in Matagorda for several holidays so passed through there regularly. There looked to be some nice hotels?
