Yes, no problem at all. I will do that all this evening for you. I'll send you the links to the apartment we stayed at in March and the villa we're staying at at christmas, also their locations, what car hire we used, etc. Both came from airbnb and ownersdirect.com but i'll get you the detail. And yes, the car hire details.
Top geezer!

We have never gone the villa route yet as i want someone to make my bed for me smile car hire we have always used Plus Car, when coming out of departures turn left and go up the escalators, turn right and walk to the end and then cross the road into the car park, there is a hut at the back, I think its row A10 .... then when returning just head for the carpark, leave it somewhere near where you picked it up and put the key and the ticket under the mat.

For a villa i would stay somewhere near the habour although there are a few up by the Marina, I wouldn't want to drive anywhere as it doesn't mix well with Estrella, although i guess the local police would relieve you of a few hundred euros and send you on your way. Hotel wise we stay at either the White Suites, Hesperia Playa Dorado or Princess Yaiza.

If you use Autoreisen, their office is right in the airport so you can be sorting out your car hire paperwork / keys when you're waiting for your luggage to arrive. Saves 20 mins. Once you get your keys your just out the main door and straight across to the underground car park.

Agreed. We're going back out for Christmas / New Year and are staying down close to the harbour - just across from it actually.

Blatant plug but my mate owns a company that does villa rental/management. He’s British and has a large portfolio now.

Well we’ve had an extra night and day courtesy of Thomas Cook. Seems our Airbus home had not just one, but two broken engines.

By the way - Daemon - thanks from me and Mrs DS for your emails - they were really informative. That small apartment looks nice.

We rented a villa with pool in Puerto Del Carmen from James Villas, in February 2017, my wife and I, my wife’s brother and his wife, took my father-in-law for a week away, as it was the first anniversary of my mother-in-law’s death.
The villa was a five minute walk from Toro, probably one of the best restaurants on the island, on the roundabout st the top of Calle Reina Sophia.
It specialised in steaks, but had plenty of fish on the menu too.
I would have eaten there virtually every night had it been up to me, it was large, clean place, with good service, and an extensive wine list, I think we were getting away with around €25 to €30 per head for dinner and wine, water, and coffees.
My brother-in-law however, wanted nothing but McDonalds or Burger King, or fish and chips, firmly believing that anyone who paid more than £7 or £8 for dinner, or liked places with tablecloths, was aspiring to be among the landed gentry.
In the end, I was driving him, his wife, and his dad down to Puerto Del Carmen centre in the evening, and they’d walk back, or grab a taxi, while my wife and I would walk over to Toro for dinner.

Just found this thread, Not sure how I ever missed it.

Lanzarote is certainly "marmite" - I love it. Have been going since 1980, it has changed massively (Playa Blanca was but a 40 house fishing village and there was no road down from Femes and the LZ2 was a track (the trips to Papagayo were challenging). Some of the villages in the North are still relatively untouched and well worth visiting.

I use it now as my fortnight a year bolthole doing nothing but reading, eating & drinking.......

We have been going around Christmas time for a long time.

Last year was the first time that we had poor weather. It is then you realise that there is not much to do if the sun is not shining.

So plan what you might do - just in case.

That must have been amazing to see, relative to how it is now.

Yes, we've started hitting some of the little villages and the odd teleclub. We hire a car for the duration when we're there so its nice just to head off and see some of the non touristy areas.

Wholly how we do it - we just go there and really just take it easy - eat, drink and watch the world go by. By going out of summer season you can predominantly miss the chav families that these places attract during the summer holiday months.

We've went entire holidays without even speaking to other holidaymakers let alone engaging with them.

Indeed yes. Though we dont do the lying out in the sun thing anyway so unless it would be heavy rain, the weather tends not to slow us down much

I've been looking ready for March, toying with staying at Princes Yaiza, a villa appeals but needs to be right in the centre and even then i'd miss the hotel breakfast and someone making my bed smile

Yes, location is very important now in Playa Blanca given the sheer size of it you could end up being wayyyyy out.

The villa we have got is just immediately behind the road down to the harbour. Our last apartment was right in the town centre itself.

We used to go to one which was out in the residential area which although it was lovely it was a PITA to get to and from if you wanted to have a few drinks (ie, every day).

Just a passing observation but the Kings Head seems to be closed down? Was a fairly crap bar in the grand scheme of things but it had location on its side. Not sure what happened there or why.

Ice House seems to be still rolling along with the same owners. Not sure if they havent found a victim to pay their sky high asking price or whether they've changed their minds?

New little cafe bar seems to be have gained popularity - Treat. Seems to be above and to the right of Irish Anvil.

Can anyone recommend a hotel either in Playa Blanca or somewhere similar? I am very much a self catered villa in a small village person but by wife and her parents are insisting on a proper hotel for us and our 1 year old child.

So I am trying to find the least worst hotel, avoiding the big resorts and towns. I found Jardines Del Sol which looked like a compromise between a giant hotel and a self catered villa from Air BnB.

I know the north of the island is nicer but not sure if there are any suitable hotels.
Any good areas in Tenerife also?

Costa Adeje is nice - more the northern part of it. Close to Siam Park and Playa El Duque.
