Can anyone recommend a hotel either in Playa Blanca or somewhere similar? I am very much a self catered villa in a small village person but by wife and her parents are insisting on a proper hotel for us and our 1 year old child.

So I am trying to find the least worst hotel, avoiding the big resorts and towns. I found Jardines Del Sol which looked like a compromise between a giant hotel and a self catered villa from Air BnB.

I know the north of the island is nicer but not sure if there are any suitable hotels.
Any good areas in Tenerife also?
Hotel volcan is decent enough.

Tenerife - Hotel Botanico. North side of the island. Just had a week there with the family, quiet mid sized hotel. In its hay day I expect it was the best place around, bit tired in parts but service was great and facilities fine. Lots of oldies going to bed early and going out clogging up the roads during the day, meaning the hotel didnt feel too busy, plenty of space round the pool, no bun fights at brekkie, quiet at night.

Flying out next month for 2 weeks in a villa. We normally get apartments in Costa Teguise, but staying in Puerto del Carmen this time. Basically a free holiday after the flight delay last time - engine failure and an overnight stay in Lisbon on the way home.

Don't have much experience of PdC, only stayed there once, and that was 30 years ago. Normally avoid the place as the parking is awful, and "The Strip" looks a bit council.

Rubicon Palace in Playa Blanca was OK on several occasions and has apparently recently been refurbed. Some distance from the resort centre though. Another one to look at is the Lanzarote Princess which my mum spent several winters at and that's been refurbed too.

Bottom line is all the PB hotels with the exception of the Princess Yazia are pretty much average 4* large chain hotels with pretty mediocre food, over priced drinks and truly dire evening entertainment.

If that what you want then just choose whichever one is offering the best deal.

I hope the weather is better whenever you go than its been in neighboring Furteventura for the last three weeks rolleyes

Volcan claims to be 5* but apart from the adults only pool area I cannot understand why it qualifies as such. Mediocre food, over priced drinks and bad entertainment is a certainty!

Ice House seems to be still rolling along with the same owners. Not sure if they havent found a victim to pay their sky high asking price or whether they've changed their minds?

New little cafe bar seems to be have gained popularity - Treat. Seems to be above and to the right of Irish Anvil.
Was the Kings Head on the see front ? I thought that became some form of indian a few years ago ? I'm sure the current owners of the ice house used to run it.

Pete doesn't want to give the Ice house up, its the wife, when we were there in March he hinted at that. I'm sure the last owner Simons mother inlaw had a villa at the back of the harbour.

Was next to Restaurant Asia.

For me, the Kings Head always played live music far too loud. You couldn’t hold a conversation in there.

It was there and open when we were there in March. Its between Asia and the alley way beside like an amusement arcade. It was being run by some Chinese people in March.
Seems to have closed now. We used to like sitting outside it and watching the world go by. I've this thing about looking out to sea. Fairly stty bar otherwise though...

Would be a prime location there so will be interesting to see what they do with the location.

You’re right about one thing, note I said you’re right, not your right, it’s not something I would do.
I make mistakes, sure, but not with your and you’re, nor with there, their, or they’re, but you’re wrong about my contributions, check p 13.

Page 13? I only have 4 pages on this thread?

I knew I’d miss something.

This was it FB, I posted it on April 20th., I guess restaurants were being discussed, it was presumably this year, seems strange that you have only 4 pages, where I have 14, hopefully someone more clued up than us can explain the reason.
We are booked to go to Gran Canaria next February, with my brother-in-law and his wife again.
I’m not looking forward to it, our tastes are worlds apart, he wants the cheapest beer and burgers he can find, with football on TV, I want good food, and good wine, in a clean restaurant, preferably with no TV.
His sister, (my wife), leaned very hard on me to go with them, what’s a guy to do?

We rented a villa with pool in Puerto Del Carmen from James Villas, in February 2017, my wife and I, my wife’s brother and his wife, took my father-in-law for a week away, as it was the first anniversary of my mother-in-law’s death.
The villa was a five minute walk from Toro, probably one of the best restaurants on the island, on the roundabout st the top of Calle Reina Sophia.
It specialised in steaks, but had plenty of fish on the menu too.
I would have eaten there virtually every night had it been up to me, it was large, clean place, with good service, and an extensive wine list, I think we were getting away with around €25 to €30 per head for dinner and wine, water, and coffees.
My brother-in-law however, wanted nothing but McDonalds or Burger King, or fish and chips, firmly believing that anyone who paid more than £7 or £8 for dinner, or liked places with tablecloths, was aspiring to be among the landed gentry.
In the end, I was driving him, his wife, and his dad down to Puerto Del Carmen centre in the evening, and they’d walk back, or grab a taxi, while my wife and I would walk over to Toro for dinner.

The proper north of the island is pretty much deserted. Costa Teguise is OK but I prefer PB, while PdC is (small bits around the harbour excepted) very much Little England.

Good PB hotel (which may not suit you as there's no kitchenette) - the Iberostar Lanzarote Park - not a 5* but a very solid reecntly-refurbed 4* with excellent breakfast (huge choice / fresh food / some cooked in front of you...although mixed lunch and evening meals - some genuinely nice stuff / some dishes they really didn't take care over / a few cook-it-in-front-of-you stations - we never do hotel buffets as we like our food too much but this one you could tolerate if necessary). Moderate walk into the town centre but not too bad...looks like the best bet this side of the Yaiza.

Now I didn’t know that, see, I CAN make mistakes, but the your and you’re, and there, their, and they’re just automatically register as wrong in my mind, (when they are wrong), as does my pet bugbear, should of and would of, instead of should have and would have.
It’s not that I’m clever, I’m useless at arithmetic and science stuff, but I think it may have been the calibre of my english teacher, she made the lessons interesting, so I’d look forward to them, and was eager to learn.
Same with geography, history and French, those teachers knew how to make the subjects interesting, so I paid attention.
I go in pub quizzes, and if asked for the capital of Lichtenstein, I’ll whisper Vaduz to whoever’s writing the answers down, my mates will say, “Shut up, you flash ba*tard!”

Arrived tonight around 18.30, by the time we got throught the airport (though have to say Passport Control guy could'nt have really cared less, on his phone waving folk through...very good we thought) it was dark and fairly cold, quick trip to Lidl in PDC and then on to our accomodation in PB, which is superb BTW. Out for a bite to eat and back for a nice night cap G&T but weather seems to be not great so far, warmer than home though I guess, fingers crosssed for rest of weekthumbup

Tends to be quite cool in the evenings from here on in though should be warm enough during the day.

If you fancy a walk at some point, you can walk from PDC down to Puerto Calero which has some lovely little bars and restaurants facing out on to the marina and some nice shops. Takes about an hour. Its a coastal walk with some really nice scenery.
