We used Cicar last year, very easy and pleasant on arrival, just gave me the keys, and said bring it back as near to the slot you picked it up from, and that was it, brought it back, gave them the keys, they asked if all was okay, I said yes, and that was it.
Only downside, and that wasn’t their fault, was that it was a six speed Fiat Stilo, and I hate manuals, I’m auto all the way, drove me nuts, but I handed it over to my wife after driving to the villa, she also won’t buy a stick shift, but she bit the bullet.
Not sure it would have been a Stilo, they stopped making them around 2007 I think, our no 1 son still runs a 2006 3 door and TBF it's not that bad reallyOnly downside, and that wasn’t their fault, was that it was a six speed Fiat Stilo, and I hate manuals, I’m auto all the way, drove me nuts, but I handed it over to my wife after driving to the villa, she also won’t buy a stick shift, but she bit the bullet.
No idea of its age, but this was February 2017, so I doubt it was more than 18-24 months old.
I’ve got a lazy day tomorrow, I may, but don’t hold me to it, email Cicar, and say, “Buenos Dias, my name’s Bill Smith, can you tell me what model I rented in February 2017 please.”

I can’t remember well enough to argue the point, it may have been a Seat, but I’m virtually sure that it was a Fiat, it was quite large, like an estate car, there were 5 of us, all adults, and there was enough room, and it DEFINITELY had 6 forward gears.

As you were men, surprisingly, after more than my fair share of vodka, I went through my email history with Cicar, and discovered that in fact, the car I hired was a Fiat Tipo.No idea of its age, but this was February 2017, so I doubt it was more than 18-24 months old.

In my mind a Tipo is only mid sized at best, maybe that’s why I remembered it as a Stilo, I still can’t equate a Tipo as big enough to take 5 adults.
Thanks for the replies. Didn't even consider that car hire would be cheaper. Looked at it on other Spanish islands we have visited and it was really not cost efficient, compared to other transfer options. But at the prices some have quoted, perhaps it is. And thinking about it, might be good to have the option of a drive out somewhere, if the weather isn't great.

Beautiful in the mountains. Utterly souless place everywhere else. Just a dusty dry rock with fast food junk everywhere.
Subjectivity can be so revealing!Sa Calobra said:

Subjectivity can be so revealing!Sadly many of these places have been ruined by tourism - but to the benefit of the local economy.
You only have to look at the history of the likes of Benidorm maybe 60 years ago compared to the grotesque tourist resort it is now.
We go for cheap winter sun. Wouldnt be near the place over the summer months, but October to March its quieter. We like to relax and watch the world go by. We arent sun worshippers and we've found hotels arent for us. A quiet villa or modern apartment within walking distance of the main resort usually suits us well and we'll hit a little coffee shop in the mornings and maybe a quiet bar in the afternoons.
If we fancy going to some touristy restaurant on the sea front we can do that, likewise if we want to find some local restaurant or Tapas Bar down a backstreet or maybe head out to a Bodega or some inland town for a walk around then we can do that too.
Holidays are what you make them.

It seems many locations are generic.
Slovenia next but we'll be up in the mountains.
I freely admit I can't bear beach holidays.
Totally agree. Its another reason why we get a hire car - so we can head off to some of the less touristy places. Slovenia next but we'll be up in the mountains.

Part of the reason why we avoid hotels is because of that sit around the pool and drink beer culture.
We never go near the beach either. BUT i do like sitting in bars looking out to sea on a warm day and watching the world go by.
My son lived in Slovenia for six months. Loved it. He toured around a fair bit and did Croatia, Bosnia, etc. Said it was amazing. It would be on our to do list at some point.

Think weather this year over Europe has been a bit strange TBH, we have been in Menorca, Portugal and now Lanzarote in the last few months and it's been pretty unsettled. Best holiday weather we had this year was a weeks camping in the lakes in June, was actually too hot.
I'm over next March... Who did you hire the RS6 from!!! ??? Edited by ninepoint2 on Thursday 15th November 00:00

I wouldn't call myself a sun worshiper but i do like sitting out in the sun, relaxing and watching the world go by .... or laughing at the people who rotate the sun loungers because the sun moves. I just like doing nothing, that for me is a holiday.
Wholly with you. Nothing to do and all day to do it in.

Had dinner tonight in a place called Blue Note, down the far end of the Marina. It's a Jazz/Blues place and the food was pretty decent and reasonabaly priced too
I've seen that place and it looks really nice. The Jazz music would put me off though - it really grates on me.Deep Thought said:

We sometimes go to Vino Blanco for lunch which would be just up from that.

Also Cafe Terraza for the coffee and home made cake. And then the cocktails! They do a "bubble mojito" which is a mojito with cava in it instead of mineral water.

It was this one.
It’s not obvious from the street but in the photos you can see the steps and it has a big chain as a banister.
It’s not amazing but we went as a family and liked it.
Nice place for sunset looking over the marina from higher up.
