Car booked a long time ago, we always use holiday autos to book, good prices, and a good broker in my experience.
For some reason though, I just re ran a quote for our trip in 4 weeks time and it had dropped £70 from £149 which wasnt expensive for a focus size car from hertz in the first place.
Just went online to cancel and it let me take the better deal in the cancellaton process, have rebooked with hertz for the same car £70 on its way back to my account.
You wouldnt get that many places these days, nice!!!
Thats a really god price for a Focus sized car - pro rata we're paying roughly that for a Polo sized car. Theres just the two of us so its grand anyway. For some reason though, I just re ran a quote for our trip in 4 weeks time and it had dropped £70 from £149 which wasnt expensive for a focus size car from hertz in the first place.

Definitely worth checking though
Been to Puerto Del Carmen a couple of times for short breaks diving in October.
Positives : Good diving, lots of fish (beats the Med into a cocked hat for this!), decent restaurants with fresh sea food on the old harbour, easy access from the affordable accommodation to the beach/dive centre (I used Safari both times), cheap, warm, good Indian restaurant!
Negatives : Seems to be the Irish Costa Del Sol.
Both times I've explored the island a bit. Timanfaya was a big disappointment, I thought. The North East end of the island is quite nice, green and some great lava tubes to explore.
Last year we did a tour, which included a number of places associated with César Manrique, which was quite interesting (especially Lagomar and his subterranean house!).
I've not been to the other islands (I understand LZ is the only one without high rise buildings), but it's quite nice for a few days warmth in the Autumn/Winter - Relaxed, quiet, warm enough.
I wouldn't bother with it for a full week's holiday though.

Funnily, we're going for more than a week for the first time in a few years and we've booked a day return to Fuerteventura on the Fred Olsen ferry. Works out at 28 euros each, each way. Will be interesting to see.I wouldn't bother with it for a full week's holiday though.

Went a few years ago and whilst I wasn't that impressed with the island itself it was the perfect destination for relaxing by the pool with a book, leisurely swims, and long boozy meals in the evening. Friends moved there last year which I certainly couldn't do but it suits them. But it does give us a good reason to go back so we're looking at hiring a villa either next spring or autumn.
Actually, thinking about it February might be nice

If you hire some wheels for a day then just for a taste of the island drive out of Corralejo and to El Cotillo through Lajares. El Cotillo has some stunning beaches - a long one to the south and lots of small sandy ones north towards the lighthouse. Then go onto La Olivia and inland to to the pretty village of Bentancuria and then over to the east side of the island and back to Corralejo passing through the sand dunes.
Back to Fuerte in a couple of weeks if der liddle Oryish fella hisself Sur doesn't fk up anymore flights .

Nice beach with a couple of beach bars. Turn left down Calle la Red a bit further up
Rest of Corralejo is a bit of a sprawl and all residential or touristy accommodation and not really worth schlepping around, especially if there's a cold beer with your name on it waiting in the bar.

If la Playita is rammed then El Toro Brava half way up the the high street on the left facing away from the port is good too. Check out the international type shoping centres as well - Mrs JS, who knows her st when it comes to buying stuff you don't actually need - recons they are much better than Lanzarote.

Spot on, cheers. I've made a note of all that. Much appreciated.Nice beach with a couple of beach bars. Turn left down Calle la Red a bit further up

We stayed there for a week in November, there is a resturant called the ugly ducking that gets good reviews. The resort is similar in feel to Playa Blanca. If you hire through Plus car they will let you take it across to the other islands, although they probably won't let you take it on as a foot passenger

Had spotted the Ugly Duckling on Trip Advisor - it seems to be the no 1 rated restaurant in Corralejo

We stayed HB as we wanted a slightly cheaper holiday, however ...

Nice Pizzas.

Not bad burgers but more ham than beef, not quite as good as the reviews suggest.

Off to Playa Blanca on Friday morning - first "sit on a beach/pool and do nothing" holiday I've had since 2009.
Booked it last minute and we are staying at some place with a million swimming pools THB Tropical Island - looks to have goodish reviews on Trip Advisor, especially if you discount the all-inclusive stuff as we don't do all-inclusive.
I intend to read books and drink beer.

Thats literally "round the corner" from the villa we rent - its in the residential area behind your complex.Booked it last minute and we are staying at some place with a million swimming pools THB Tropical Island - looks to have goodish reviews on Trip Advisor, especially if you discount the all-inclusive stuff as we don't do all-inclusive.

Ice House is the first bar you'll if you were to walk towards the town, then drop down on to the sea front.

OK cool. Is it an OK place to be? I'm not really overly fussy, to be honest, we go out of school holidays to avoid people with tattoos and screaming children as far as possible. If the pool facilities are empty enough to use then fair enough, otherwise we will walk to the beach. Any recommendations for decent places to eat and drink round there?
Breakfast, for example?
Suggestions welcome.
I was considering renting a scooter with a decent sized engine (we both have full licences) however they look to be more expensive than cars to rent

Yes, seems very nice from the outside, popular and you're going out of season so you'll avoid most of the chavs that visit these places over the summer months.Any recommendations for decent places to eat and drink round there?

Yes, hire - we found that too even with car hire - if you wanted anything other than the "standard" small hire car, you paid a disproprtionate amount for it, suggesting thats where the most competition is in the marketplace (and thus best prices)
As mentioned, the icehouse is within easy walking distance and does a good breakfast

They're on the outside edge of a small shopping centre type development and theres several cafe / restaurants there most of which do breakfast too. On down in to the main resort theres loads of places so the worlds your lobster.
Walking the other direction to the marina, theres quite a range of cafes / restaurants there too, that too is walkable from where you are.
From personal experience, recommendations on here and recommendations by friends this is our "hitlist" this time of restaurants in Playa Blanca in no particular order. You'll find them on tripadvisor if you want more info.
Mama Rosa
Camel
La Isla Bonita
Bodegon Las Tapas
Chacho Fresh Burger (burger bar)
Ice House
Casalle Franco
La Vaca Tijuana
La Flamenca
La Gondola (good breakfast in main resort)
La katedral
Restaurant recommendations from me are La Romantica, Los Hervideros and, for a proper fry-up, The Anvil Irish Bar,
Am currently in PB, come at least once a year as my Wife’s best friend and family live and run a business here, we have use of a villa.
Booked car hire with Ryanair (seemed a good deal) and, confirmation arrived that the company providing the car was called ‘Orlando’ - we ended up cancelling the night before travelling as the reviews are shocking. Also, didn’t want to pay c€50 UPFRONT for a tank of fuel on a full to empty basis with no refund.
In the end, paid the £22 cancellation fee and rented a Polo through Avis for 11 days at £52. We’ll be better off than we would have been, even after the cancellation fee and topping up the car with fuel before return.
