...am I mental given the recent one man terrorist attack at a resort?

Looks like I can get a decent all inclusive 11 night holiday for a couple of grand for me and the girlfriend. Decent weather and one of the only currencies that have seemingly devalued against sterling.

My wife and I are taking the kids to Hurghada for twelve days in August (yes, I know: hot!) and I'm not too worried. I know there have been attacks but they're very infrequent and government advice hasn't changed.

I would still book a holiday today but I'm very much a pragmatist about the risk. Your GF might not be!

If you look at any destination in the world and the terrorist incidents that have happened there, then Egypt is no worse than anywhere.
I wanted to go diving on the Red Sea but my wife is too scared and no amount of logic will change her mind. It is a collective mental illness.

There's only two reasons to go to Sharm - To broil in the sun at an all inclusive or to dive...

The diving was great and excellent value!

I'd go to Hurgada, not sure I'd take my kids...

Hurghada most certainly is a shyte hole.

Mind you, not that far away is a place called El Gouna. About 10 years ago it was pretty well not too bad.

Hurghada main street is much better presented compared to Sharm. This is also coming from someone who first visited Sharm in 2002 and last visited in 2013, so I've seen it change a lot in that time.

Certain dive sites really deteriorated during that time and I can only imagine it has got worse in recent years.

However I would still recommend Hurghada and yes it will be very hot. I wouldn't be massively concerned with terrorism. We got a great all inclusive deal back in 2005 after one of the hotel bombings.

Given yesterday's slight mishap with smoke on a plane, I wonder if the prices will be even cheaper...

Hurghada town seems to be Russia at the beach. Some nice all-inclusive resorts down the coast around Makadi
