Yes seriously smile

My wife's parents (now decreased) used to go there, and my wife wants to do a weekend there just to see what it's like!

Is there a decent hotel we should book into, and is anything worth doing there?

How about York? hehe

I just had a look on the map. Given the size of Blackpool, how come it justifies having its own motorway to connect it to the M6? Is that just to allow people to run away faster?

I noted from the Blackpool Wikipedia page that entertainment options vary widely from Ken Dodd to Roy Chubby Brown! biggrin

You could check in to the Hilton, and then do your best not to leave it all weekend so that you can imagine you're not in Blackpool?

Only places decent are:-

Village hotel (golf and gym etc)
Blackpool FC hotel (restaurant good)
Big Blue (on pleasure beach)

Lytham and Poulton have plenty of good restaurent and bars.

In Blackpool centre the only place I go is the Beach House on the prom.

Not as bad as it's made out of you know where to go (like anywhere really).

Enjoy

I'd stay in Lytham and then visit Blackpool (briefly) from there.

Best advice I've seen on here for a long time , my missus asked if we could go there for a weekend , I took her for the day and she was ready to leave after an hour !

Visit Britain says Blackpool is the UK’s most popular seaside destination, with 8.6 million day visits generating £406m. It's also the largest town in Lancashire, with a population of over 140,000.

If you go on the right weekend next month, you'll get to see a free air show

Even Southport might be an option for accommodation. It used to be nice, no idea what it is like these days. It's been years since I've been there.

The Village Hotel is a business class hotel, spa and conference centre on the edge of Blackpool. It seems to get decent reviews.

You're really not going to find anywhere 'nice' in Blackpool itself nowadays. The suggestions of Lytham or Southport are probably much more suitable. A visit for a couple of hours will be enough.

It's still pretty small compared to the likes of Middlesborough, Hull & Norwich though.

There was a b&b from Blackpool on last weeks CH4 programme '4 in a bed' which seemed fine - think it won that weeks award. You can watch it on catch up TV.
Quite a few Blackpool b&bs appear on the programme - and many can be found on youtube.

A decent 'budget' B&B in Blackpool is the Craimar, usually around £55 for 2 people.
There is the Hilton the north of Blackpool and the Village hotel which I think is further out.

Blackpool does get a lot of slack. There are some sights to see in regards to the people hehe but I've never had any hassle with people who visit there.

I've been a fair few times as it is only 50 minutes away and if the weather is nice we will go up to Blackpool pleasure beach for the day.

If you aren't a stuck up bd and 'have' to go there it'll be an ok day out.

If you intend to go to the top of the tower then on kellogs cereal boxes there are buy one get one free vouchers smile

Try The Royal Vincent Hotel.

Be sure to double check the TripAdvisor reviews and look at the pictures before booking. My mate forgot to do so before booking.

Its like "demolition man" here some days.

OP get yourself in a b&b, go do some trashy stuff and dont worry about it, less-affluent isnt a contagible disease.

We stayed there for a music festival at the winter gardens so only did minor exploration of the locale so were only stabbed by crack addicted pit bulls on 14 occasions.

Pleasure Beach is fairly decent, wristbands aren't bad but it has to be your thing to cope :P

Other than that, it's just a seaside town. Front is ok, but council as you can get.

Hotels? I've only ever scummed it in Travelodge but I hear Big Blue is ok (You won't be sleeping past 10:00 when they start testing The Big One etc and they close fairly late in the P.B. but not excessively)

You'll be in Manchester by the next midday tbh
