I've long been a fan of European road trips, a great way to stretch the legs of your motor and see "stuff".

Here's a bit of a pictorial summary if anybody is interested biggrin

Fettled up and ready to go

Exactly three miles in and tyre pressure light pings up. All tyres had been replaced just three weeks earlier. All checked and reset, no further issues. Not a comfortable start though!

Leg one: Metz

I'd only ever blasted past before. Turned out to be a real great place!

Leg 2: Innsbruck

In Austria during the Austrian GP, but some distance away.

Innsbruck was a nice enough place, surrounded by stunning scenery

From a PH perspective the next leg was a winner! A blast that incorporated German autobahns to Trento. If you've never driven on the sections with no speed limit, let me tell you it's an experience!!

Trento:

We really enjoyed Trento, it was stunning.

Now for a pause as I am out for a curry, back later!

Now I think about it, the German stretch was Metz to Innsbruck.

Incidentally, there are a lot of nay Sayers on here ref the Golf R. I can tell you that trips like this put the car in proper perspective. On the autobahns it was awesome, and not that it matters, but on the trundle from Innsbruck to Trento the mpg was thus:

We stayed at the Lido Palace. It's top notch, but a tad pricey.

Really like that blue on the Golf, reminds me of the BMW Tanzanite.

Then, for me the best leg of the trip, Varenna on lago di Como

We've included Varenna on our tours every other year since the 1990s. It's a truly stunning place
