1st Time Travel Insurance Help
Discussion
Pregnancy (given the many who complain about health tourism in UK). Repatriation of a cadaver (gruesome thought, but that can be very expensive). I assume you have an EHIC (European Health Insurance Card, that allows reciprocal use between EU countries (pre-Brexit). Som bank accounts that you pay for include good cover annual multi-trip insurance. Don't forget to check with your practice nurse that you are up to date with jabs etc.
Travel insurance is extremely important because although the risks may not be that likely, the minuscule cost of the insurance is nothing compared to the potential costs of say uncovered medical costs (should you require medical attention).
First up, read the concise guide to the policy very, very carefully before buying:
- what do you wish to cover? e.g. medical cover (v. important), lost documents / money / missed flights / activities (important)
- what is included, and how much cover is provided?
- what is excluded?
Second, make sure any activities that you plan to do, or think you may try, are covered and included within your insurance e.g. diving, mountain biking, rafting, etc.
Third, read the T&Cs in full and make sure that you comply with any pre-requisities. If you have the misfortune to actually need insurance, you do not wish to discover that you have failed to comply with the T&Cs, and that your insurance is invalid. Make sure you understand what is classified as an 'Act of God', and will not be covered under insurance.
Fourth, save a copy of all policy documents in a cloud-based service (email, dropbox, etc), that you can access online. I would actually print-off a copy to take with me.
Fifth, save the insurance telephone number in your mobile.
Sixth, relax and enjoy your holiday!
