Hi,

I have been to orlando in april (Perfect).
And also in August (humidity fine, but storms and rain.....although missed most of it).

Has anyone any experience of august?
Mainly for the aqua parks and one day at universal.

I'n nainly concerned about aquaa parks being closed or not being able to get into the water due to storms, etc.

July was quite acceptable, but is august?

I'll add i am not too concerned about hurricames as the chances of one hitting florida in any year is about 40% i beleive for the whole 5 month hurricane season.

You’ll get heavy showers that are quite isolated each day. If there’s thunderstorms with lightning they close the rollercoasters and water parks/rides

Universal and Disney appear to look at a Doppler weather radar and if there’s lightning within 10 miles halt the outdoors stuff and water rides and close pools etc.

It’s all about lightning though. Rain etc leaves everything running. I think if you’re in a water park they might have rules about lifeguards being able to see the bottom of the pools so I suppose really heavy rain might do it?

I would say there would probably be showers each day but usually not actually lightning and even if there is, it all passes through quickly. It wouldn’t put me off going. It will be very hot and busy though otherwise. I’d still much rather go in October or when it’s cooler.

We got caught out in June at Blizzard Beach. We had just got changed when the weather started and the rides closed.
We sat around for half an hour or so talking to the lifeguards and then packed it in as a bad job.

It does seem Easter or October is the optimum time to go.

Been many times in August including water parks. We did have 45 mins of blizzard beach being closed but wait it out then run to get on first when they re-open smile

Usually 1 to 2 thunder storms pass over a day about 30mins on average in length.

Thanks.

Seems quite similar to July then.

Can't wait.

I was working in Orlando between Jul 2004 and Oct 2004 and in that period I experienced 4 Hurricanes (Charley, Frances, Ivan, Jeanne) and a number of Tropical Storms, so that paragraph made me chuckle too smile

Have a good holiday...

I've lived in Orlando since 2001 and I think he's about right, chuckle-boys.

Prior to Charley, the last direct hit on Central FL was Donna in 1960 and the last really damaging hit on the entire state was Andrew, which had no impact on Central FL.

2004 was a particularly active Atlantic hurricane season - not typical at all - and in reality Frances and Jeanne, were not big wind events and Ivan had no real impact on Central FL - where this guy is planning on holidaying.
