Definitely get the Irish one, just for access to the EU after Brexit!

I have two passports - a clean and a dirty one. Depending on which country I am visiting, dictates which passport I have to take. As Swernie said, the main benefit is that you can send one off for a Visa and still travel on the other one.

About 2 years ago, I had a bit of a hoohaa as I had to travel to Baghdad on business, meaning I got put on the US no fly list and had to then apply for a US visa, rather than the normal ESTA. This always causes a bit of a “chat” when I go through US immigration.

Had two British passports for the last 20 years and for a while carried 3 passports. Always good to have an extra departure method when your passports are held in country or away for a visa.
