NYC helicopter
Discussion
Many years ago when I traveller regularly to New York I often used the helicopter service from JFK to downtown New York. The heliport was close to the UN Building. I don't think the helicopter service is running now. Anyway, what I do remember is that the trip was sensational at night time...much better than during the day.

Hi, are you talking about the helipad atop the Pan Am (now MetLife) building, where they used to bus in 1st class passengers from JFK?R.
I was based in the building for a short while - long after building name change and Pan Am closure - and was always thinking if it was possible to have a look at the view from the top. Being dead flat it must be one of the best places to view Manhattan, let alone fly and land on top of it!

tigerkoi,
That looks fantastic. Sadly, no, the JFK-NYC helicopter service I used landed near the UN HQ. I think the heliport is now called the TSS Heliport.

Ahh the East 34th heliport near Tisch and NYU medical! It was the replacement for the Pan Am building heli site I gather. I think it’s closed now. Open when I was working there but I think the tentacle effects of Lehman, 2008 etc might have put it to pasture. That looks fantastic. Must have been a pretty cool experience going over Brooklyn rather than through it!
