Ownersdirect has always served well.
Hi all

I’m looking at booking a villa in Florida for the summer

Found a nice one on OwnersDirect but the reviews on trustpilot of O.D are shocking.
I normally take such review websites with a hefty pinch of salt but literally every review speaks of problems.

Has anyone else had issues with O.D or HomeAway?
Any other sites to look at?

TIA
OD will also add nearly $200 on a $1000 rental,
We also list with Debbie’s villas, TA, booking.com, FB, directly with Google, Dibb, and more.
If booking direct with an owner, follow my advice above ref taxes and licence.
What exactly are you looking for, as I am out there, and have a couple of friends who rent also

K
Thanks for the info

We're looking for a 3 bed villa with private pool and, preferably, spa.
We will spend around half our time there, so looking for something reasonably nice inside and in a quiet area.
Location - we've looked around Haines City as we'd prefer to be south of Orlando and will not spend much time in the parks.
However, if it's another area of Orlando, we're also open to that. Stayed in Cape Coral last year and loved it.

PM me if you'd prefer smile

I've just booked a villa on the Dalmatian coast in Croatia via Airb&b. The only site I could find exactly what I was looking for in a location I wanted. Paid via Paypal.
First time on airb&b so I'll report back in August how it went.

used these people in the past (excellent) via an independent travel agent I use, not sure if they deal direct with public, but might be worth a call

We rented last Nov and I found a scathing review the owner had left on Trustpilot about Homeaway. I think he'd fallen out with them big-time!

We found the villa through the area's homeowners association, but it was also listed on TripAdvisor. Was a bit alarmed to find it was for sale - as are a lot of villas in Orlando. As we were going last-minute I wasn't too concerned about that, but wouldn't have booked it if our dates were some way away. I did as many checks as I could and was happy with it, although I did have to ask the owner a couple of times for his UK address. Paid the owner direct by bank transfer.

Have a look at villas on TheDibb, https://www.thedibb.co.uk/forums/villa-search.php but if you're looking for this summer most sought after villas will be booked now. I will say one of the weird things looking on Homeaway etc is how much occupancy varies between apparently similar villas.

Would question staying near Haines City if you're not doing the parks - as most other things in Orlando are past the parks from there, it makes it quite a trek and I4 gets extremely busy. Our trip was Disneyless and we stayed at Windsor Hills, plus a few days at the coast and then last few days at Marriott Grande Vista off I-Drive - was impressed by that place.

We booked a villa with Home & Away for last summer's holiday & it was very easy experience. Plenty of advice on there about how to pay etc. We had emailed loads of villas enquiring about dates / costs etc. (we were booking early so prices weren't always available) and the amount of emails from Home & Away we've had since telling us not to book certain properties is quite alarming!

The villa we eventually booked ended up being a brand new listing with no feedback but the owner only asked for a small deposit & was very flexible regarding arrival dates etc. so we decided it was worth the risk. By the time we went, they'd had quite a few reviews which was reassuring!

With regards to using Home & Away for booking, I'd definitely use them again. It might also be worth looking at booking.com - we've just rented a cottage for half-term through them. Again, very easy to do.

We've used HomeAway and VRBO in the past and had excellent experiences with both.

VRBO is part of HomeAway and they're owned by Expedia. I'm aware there's a lot of unhappiness from individual owners about the way it doesn't work very well for them now.
