Delta One V Virgin Upper Class
Discussion
To hijack the thread, I'm flying Virgin Upper to SF in July from Heathrow. I'm flying alone and haven't flown Upper before - I take it the clubhouse is a nice place to spend a few hours? Is it worth checking out the spa thing? I'm basically wondering how I'm going to kill 4 hours in there by myself. The treatment things are all complimentary I believe - does one tip or it looked down on?
Having spent the equivalent of over a day in Delta One Lounges in recent years, they are nowhere close to Virgin’s Clubhouse lounges, except that Detroit has great shower facilities, perfect before an overnight flight (Minneapolis and SLC don’t offer that, not sure about other locations)
And the dining consists of luke-warm soup and dry crackers. Or raw veg and dry crackers.

It’s one free treatment and then payhttps://www.virginatlantic.com/content/dam/vaa/doc...

Ta,
I don't really want any treatments, I'm just wondering how to kill time. I think I'll have a spot of breakfast when I arrive, spend some time on the laptop and then have a light lunch before the plane.
Personally I’d probably just sit on the roof terrace with a G&T or two and watch the planes if the weather is nice.I don't really want any treatments, I'm just wondering how to kill time. Sounds like a plan.To the original Op/question - the Delta flight back (DL402) was a resounding success. I think I was asleep for about 5 hrs. Seats showing their age - but comfy, and as angled towards outside of the plane - suited my sleeping postion on my side ......
My thoughts:
- Clubhouse fine. Although last time, all but one of the gent's toilets were out of order. The only working one was occupied for ages by a chef from the Clubhouse. Gross, weird, frustrating - but not life changing. Just made the place feel like a service station on the M1.
- Which class to fly. The journey itself is actually not *that* long. As outbound flights are day time, I have questioned whether a bed is needed both ways. I think premium out, bed back (night flight) makes more sense. (The only counter argument is that getting off the plain first and getting a head start to immigration is probably worth thousands in prevented grey hair).
- Upper Class cabins I've used from LHR (Dec 17 and Jan 18) were a little threadbare, tatty. Service, excellent - ever so slightly cheeky cabin crew versus the stern matrons on BA.
- In general, I have heard from colleagues that the US carriers have upped their game and are now 'perfectly fine'. Maybe this excludes Delta.
