Just having a quick look for some cheap flights to Toronto at the end of June for a few days and WestJet seem to be cheap - I’m sure it must be for a reason though - are they the Ryanair of transatlantic travel? laugh

Yes, sort of.

No screen in the seat in front, but they come round with ipad type devices that you can rent.

Can't remember how much but it wasn't much.

I'd use them again, very cheap Toronto to London.

Used them for the US last year. Was very impressed, all staff very friendly and helpful.

Instead of a TV you take a tablet (or rent one for a small amount) and connect via wi-fi to access the films.

Wife has just flown to Vancouver via Calgary with WestJet.

They are the EasyJet for getting to Canada - nothing, and I mean nothing is included in the price!

Just make sure you factor in baggage and food to the price, and as above take an iPad or something for entertainment.

Other than that, there were no problems with the flight or service on board.

I’ve used them but not for transatlantic, I expect it will be in a B767.

When I flew with them shorthaul you download a west jet app on your iPad before the flight and you can then stream stuff to it from West jets own closed entertainment system, or just watch your own predownloaded stuff.

I thought they were fine shorthaul. I don’t be happy using them to get to Canada.

Their Glasgow to Halifax & on to Toronto flight is a 737-700!
I know Norwegian are doing decent trade running new 737 Maxes from Glasgow/Edinburgh/Belfast etc to the US, but I don't think I fancy crossing the Atlantic on one personally. United's 757s were cramped enough for me.

Thanks chaps - as expected, some differing viewpoints but for ~£450 return, it’s a definite possibility.

Transat are also cheap but I’ve never heard of them either!

Yep, absolutely fine... no frills but for an overnight flight you don’t really need them anyway. NY to Gatwick £180 single. Done, and very friendly staff too.

Transat are fine, we use them every year to go back home. The food can be hit or miss on the way out but ok on the way in the seats and leg room are fine.

Good clean aircraft and good legroom, just pick your seats wisely to avoid the toilets as with any plane, seat guru is your friend.

2 persons seats give you 2 seats with toilets to the front and back so no lingering sweaty gits around you.

Have used them domestically in Canada for years and always been fine, and over the last couple of years for the transatlantic legs too, most recently in January (Gatwick to Kelowna)

Generally modern aircraft but no frills (doesn't bother me) but for that trade off often half the price of Air Canada or BA and if it does go wrong and you're on a connection it's their issue to sort too - will continue use them, but book extra leg room just for a little more space...

We had an absolute nightmare with them. Cancelled flights at the last minute, massive delays, lost gate to gate baggage (buggy), refusal to rearrange an onward connection with them after missing ours through their delay

This was all one way from Gatwick to Las Vegas. I refused to return fly with them and booked a Virgin flight instead to get back to Gatwick.

They offered me a about £1000 in compensation for all the issues and accept d fault etc... but the compensation was in the manner of “westjet dollars” which they obviously knew I wouldn’t use I wouldn’t fly with them again.

They’re cheap for a reason.
