Planning a week away, no more than a 4hr flight for a week. Needs to be somewhere family friendly but with some places to explore. Not interested in just being on a resort next to a pool for a week.

Need to have 2 bedrooms so 3yr old in own room.

Any ideas on where could be good?

My wife has said about some Eurocamp/Centre parks type places in Italy/Netherlands/france - anyone ever been?

Lake Garda is an option. Apart from being great for adults - scenery, food, water sports - it also has a section which contain water parks/ amusement parks. Regarding accommodation we stayed a few times at the Parc Germano in Bardolino. They have two bedroom two storey apartments which are suitable for two kids with one in their own room. The hotel is excellent also - it has an adults only pool as well as the kids one and a great roof top bar.

There are also several Eurocamp style sites around the lake.We stayed at a particularly nice one near Salo but it was many years ago.

Main downside is October weather can be mixed.

Hire a convertible car and drive around Sorrento and nearby?

Will be easier to explore using a car than public transport, and being on coast means kids can enjoy beaches.

And Pizza means your 3 year old will be well fed.

Yep, nice climate that time of year, plenty of stuff to do with the older kid and everything is buggy friendly for the youngest.

We spent a week there with our (at the time) 9 month old and it was a pleasure.

We like Barcelona but already been this year (and 3 times before) so would go somewhere new I think. Went to the Zoo this year which our toddler enjoyed and loved the food market up las ramblas.

Been looking at a Eurocamp place at Lake Garda, I really like it as an option as I love Italy and can get train to Milan or Venice quite easily which would be interesting (although I hear Venice is terrible for Prams!).

New forest is current preffered
UK option if we don’t fly.

Alternatively could get ferry to France/Holland so can load up car and go.

Fair enough, We went in October and it was lovely but I was ready to get to our next destination after three days there (I turned into a child at the aquarium!)

We stayed at a place called sandyballs, in one of their log cabins, weather wasn't the best but the cabin was toasty, they have a free swimming pool, soft play and other activities you can pay for, but you've also close to the coast aswell.

We've been back, camping aswell.

If you're not flying that would get my vote.

Garda is great (we drive), booked my parents on the sleeper train from Paris to Verona (with an afternoon Eurostar to Paris) this year. We’ve done a few eurocamps can’t beat that sort of holidays for young children.

Cool, did you go with infants though?

Personally, as a father to a young child there is a huge gap between what you want to do with the Mrs, Children and with infants. I'm aware others will find their own way as each family is different but for instance I used to live in the canaries and know the islands intimately-as amazing as they are for families I wouldn't recommend taking an infant there if it's just mum and dad.

A city break, as random as it sounds is wonderful (ONLY IMHO!!) simply for the reason that there is enough to keep the infant/child/adult entertained-it's a city after all! Families live there!

It might sound stupid but a good city break is no different to taking the baby up the town of a Saturday morning. Just with added adventure.

If not, and especially if budget is a concern, I hate to say it but one company has it sorted. Haven.

You may shudder at the thought of it-but to keep infants happy they've got it sussed and private hiring your static caravan lodge is buttons.
