I can’t recall any Nazi/Croatia facts so I’d be randomly guessing at towns really.

WW2, Nazi invasions, would it have been North and Istria? I’ll take a punt at Rijeka?

Yes submarine pens in the shape of a horseshoe into the cliff with two entrances.

Correct. Sibenik is the nearest town, although the pic is taken from a headland immediately opposite Sibenik. Lovely spot but about 2 miles down an unmade dirt track, and about 1 mile from Sibenik as the crow flies or 30 mins by car. You really need a boat.
