Seriously, if you like a beer you should visit Bruges when the beer festival is on. It’s epic.

I'm a frequent Bruges visitor (it's our default crossing to Europe now as getting to Dover from oop north has got so awful, was also do several "mini cruises" a year) and never knew there was such a thing.

I'm having some of that next year!
As I say, highly recommended. Opens Saturday at midday and you’d have to go some to get around all the beers by the end of Sunday when it finishes. We gave it a good go though, I think. Almost missed the Eurostar back as a result...the celebration for making the train was champagne aboard en route back hehe

Flying over this year instead and then coming back Eurostar to Amsterdam and a cheeky night there.

Great little weekend and the festival takes over the middle of Bruges to give a great atmosphere.

Oh and watch “In Bruges” before you go and then have fun spotting all the places Colin Farrell acted the tt
Great movie if you like a black comedy. Also great to see Ralph Fiennes playing another role as a nasty piece of work.

I've stayed in Bruges and Ghent and like them both equally.
Ghent is less touristy and hotels thus cheaper, but there's plenty to amuse.
We stayed at the Novotel Ghent Centrum, which was very..central. I think I could park my TVR in their car park too, which was good.

I’d recommend Tom’s Diner for food of an evening.

A lot of the bars I love have already been mentioned (Cambrinus, Le Trappiste and De Garre).

Cambrinus has a good food menu as well as an excellent beer bible.

De Garre has the best house Tripel.

The Haave Man tour is excellent.

I stayed there last year a nice underground carpark although was €20 on top of the hotel.

If you grew up on a farm, and was retarded, Bruges might impress you.

Parrot for ecsrobin! (FILM references!)

Doesn't anyone use the SEARCH function on PH?
I've seen loads of threads on Bruges in the last couple of years. There's loads of info already available ...

The film is a must watch. Whether visiting Bruges or not. We go for the Christmas markets every year, taking the car through the tunnel. It’s a beautiful place.

A couple of places we always frequent:-

Filet Pur : A small eaterie on Geernanstraat just off the main Markt, with very good shrimp croquettes and moules et frites. Quiet and friendly.

Jilles : On Braambergstraat, try this place for some of the best...........hamburgers (!!) ever, each served with a beer that compliments the flavours of each burger. A very cool atmosphere as well.

Bar Obelisque (opposite the Vismarkt near Jilles) : Huge beer menu, and a very agreeable atmosphere but not too busy.

Another vote for an afternoon spent at Bourgogne des Flandres sampling beer and snacks next to the canal.
