Just booked it, La Garangoire for 6 nights, A site just off il De Oleron for 5 nights and Chateau De Martrigny (we've been before) by Caen/Bayeaux for 5 nights. Going via Portsmouth Caen ferry.

I was tempted with Domaine De La Breche but seems theyve stopped with touring pitches so that's no good. Shame as it seems a lot of these "luxury" sites are moving away from tourers to chalet dwellers/glamping options.

Ah hah, just the thread! Was just looking for camping (campervan) options in Brittany for us and our 2 year old.

La Garangeoire looked pretty much ideal other than bit of a distance to the beach (it’s a PITA to pack our van up for a day out) and would ideally like some bike paths/quiet roads to a beach/town. Time to give this thread a read…
Brittany you say!

We went here last year and loved it:

Absolutely cracking site, right on the beach. Good pool and really close to Benodet - you can get into town on bikes/walking very easily.

Loads to do - river cruises up to Quimper, horse riding, sailing across to the Glenan isles, Benodet summer concerts, etc. etc.

Also - it's touring only! So no glamping/chalets/mobile homes.

Going back this year!

I can't believe that!

We went 3 or 4 times and met many people that had been going back to DdlB for years with their caravans (met one couple who had been 30 years in a row!). What a shame, lovely memories of that place frown

Yeah I was gutted to see we couldn't take the van. Sadly, it seems theres several sites that have gone this way. I looked at a number of places which we've considered but never visited in the past only to find that they were all chalets and glamping only now. It's a big investment for these places but probably more lucrative in the long term.

It's cost us £1750 for 16 nights with a Portsmouth Caen crossing from the 20th July. Booked it as a package with Caravan Club. Pretty much 50:50 in terms of the ferry/site. Looking at chalets, a week in one of those is at least £1000.

We’ve stayed at La Palombiere in the Dordogne 7 times over the last 20 years in mobile homes either belonging to the site or Eurocamp. Up until last year there has always been touring pitches, but no more.
I’ve often thought about buying a caravan when I retire and visiting such places such as La Palombiere or DdlB, but unfortunately this clearly isn’t going to happen.

It doesn't surprise me. Many times we have been and friends of ours rock up in their camper and wax lyrical about how much cheaper a pitch is compared to the mobile homes etc. Guess the sites have realised this now too...

But it's not exactly cheap for them to setup. If you're establishing a campsite it's electric points, grass, some hardstanding and a water supply. If you're doing chalets each one is tens of £thousands to supply, then they've got to guarantee rental of these to make them worthwhile. They've got to pay a maintenance team for upkeep and cleaning instead of just someone who runs around with a lawnmower every few days and a cleaner for the toilets.

As we're talking about Brittany, I thought I would recommend a site that we've used about a dozen times over the past thirty years - it has become a bit of a favourite for us! We go to France so often, we now have Club Voyage membership on Brittany Ferries...if you want to know the advantages, PM me.

Restaurant/bar on site, along with shop, swimming pool, miniature golf. Easy walk along the River Rance into Dinan and generally a lovely civilised place to stay. Good access to explore the Brittany seaside (St. Enogat is our favourite), Rennes and loads of market towns in the area.

Is one of the advantages being able to pass on a discount? :-)

I'm just looking to book again and it hasn't got any cheaper!

Can't believe DDLBreche doesn't do caravans anymore! We'd have gone back.
