yes Profeet felt very much like a conveyer belt with the emphasis on a sale when I went. Possibly my feet (very skinny with a slightly collapsing arch) weren't odd enough to warrant it, but the local place (Snowtrax in Bournemouth) did a fair bit more tweaking.

To be fair I was perfectly happy with the end result but they did push me into stiffer boots than I thought I wanted pretty much by asking if I was some kind of girl. hehe

Unfortunetly not. I'll be there for the main school holidays, so 6 weeks in total. What about you? Have you taken the same place again in Morillon?
Yes we still have it although only until the end of the season this year as our landlord has sold the place grumpy.

We're going to try and find somewhere else nearby though as being so close to Geneva makes for an easy weekend commute.

This season we're out most weekends and the odd week but are skipping two weeks in Feb as I can't be doing with half term crowds.

Snow in some areas not the best, needs freshening up. Just back from a week at the Grand Massif, and while the snow was surprisingly good above 1600m or so, the lower resorts were suffering with hard pack and sheet ice. Watching the ski schools and learners negotiate some of the last runs into the resorts was quite funny. Even some of the higher areas, where it had been windy, were sheet ice.

All in all, I did more messing about in the park and drinking beer than skiing.

So my initial thoughts were we’d have the world trip to Morzine it looks like the majority prefer Les Germtz (I don’t care just want ski and fun).

Anyone been. We’ve a group of 7 or 8 (c section depending on one attending...) experience is from barely novice to very good inter with I’d guess average being lower intermediate.
Is it a fine resort for this ?

I looked and didn’t realise it’s so low barely 2k meters at the peak. Should I suggest anything else or agree it’s find me - before we book it up / extremely shortly

I know that Solutions 4 Feet and Profeet are considered the best around but does anyone know anything about Snolab at Knockhatch in Hailsham, they're very local to me and it would save a lot of travelling if I can get good boots and quality fitting there.
how are your feet? do you have any issues with them, wide feet/ narrow ankles/ collapsed arch/ poor circulation etc..... ?

if not then i’d just go to your local place and have a look/ try some boots on. I went to my local ellis brigham and got a great service and great fitting boots. my feet were very ‘normal’, some heat moulding of the liners and some custom foot beds/ insoles and they are great.
Went to Snowlab on Saturday, very impressed with their knowledge and set up and going back tomorrow or Wednesday for a fitting. Hopefully my feet should be reasonably easy to work with as my only real problem a is high instep.

I recently used Captains Cavern In Sevenoaks (not far from you !!). Spent a couple of hours fitting and they were perfect ... most comfortable boots I've had.I think the guy's name was 'pav'.

I have a high bone on the top of my foot. I just found Snow & Rock wanted to put me in a boot that was too big overall to accommodate the pertruding bone on top of my foot, rather than the right volume boot and then adjusting it properly.

Where the hell is Les Germtz? Even Google doesn't seem to be able to find it!

What boots did you end up with?
I’ve both a high instep and a bone on top which has had surgery to reduce.

One of our party just got a pair from CC and he has very protruding bone spurs, ending up with these between the shell and liners:

We like Les Gets as place that has a little more feel of an Austrian town than some of the French concrete block resorts. It suits beginers very well and more dvanced skiers can easily access Morzine and on to Avoriaz etc. Of course the conditions need to be right.

Morzine and Les Gets utilise the same mountain and lift area. Both are great.

I assume that "World" is a typo and you mean "works" in which case I think that Morzine would probably be better suited.

My rationale is that I always feel Les Gets has more of a "family feel" to the Bars/Restaurants/Shops whereas Morzine is more of a "have fun/party resort", also the novice skiing is pretty good and easily accessible (much like Les Gets) but the more intermediate is better.............. the Inters would probably end up trying to get overt to Morzine/AVoriaz/Chatel than stay in Les Gets at least if you're staying in Morzine you're nearer.

If you're thinking PdS then why not consider Avoriaz, novice skiing through the centre of the resort, good altitude, some good "works trip" bars!!

That was Google suggestion but Les Germtz sounded German enough to be a German/Austrian/Swiss resort smile

Morzine and Les Gets share the same local ski area, with access to the full, and higher Portes du Soleil area. Both are also real villages, so a bit more life and business competition than a purpose built like Avoriaz. Between the two I'd say Morzine tends to have more on the apreas side so better for active adult groups, with Les Gets attracting more family/inactive adult groups (though any of those groups can have a good time in either resort).

The only other consideration would be how many miles you like to ski. If you're a chilled, late start/lots of coffee/long lunch/drinking rose at the bottom of the piste by 4pm crowd the Morzine/Les Gets area will keep you happy for most of the week. If you're mile munchers you'll probably have skied the Morzine/Les Gets area out in a day or two and be looking to hit the rest of the PdS area - at which point Morzine is probably a better base, just because you have further to travel from Les Gets (either 2 chair/2 runs, or the E1.50 bus to get to Morzine and from there access the main PdS area - and the same to get back home again). Perectly do-able, you just need to keep an eye on the time, especially in the afternoons.

I won’t mess up the board with a new thread and it seems there are lots of knowledgeable people here re ski resorts so hopefully I can jump in.

We have been talking about buying a holiday home and have this idea of somewhere with access to skiing and snow in the winter, and maybe somewhere with a bit more sun and outdoor activities in the summer. We have been to Interlaken in both summer and winter and it was great. Haven’t looked into it much but I imagine painfully expensive in Switzerland.

I wondered is there anywhere I should check out based on this limited info?

Slovenia. Poor man's Switzerland. Also has a Mediterranean coast to enjoy in the summer. You can buy 4 bedroom houses in acres of land within driving distance of ski slopes, lakes and the coast for well under 100k Euros. I'm thinking of retiring there. But don't tell anyone, I don't want bloody British migrants pushing up property prices.

For example: https://www.sloveniaestates.com/property-details/c... (check out picture 9...)

We're in Kitzbühel this weekend to enjoy some of the atmosphere for the downhill race on Saturday and to ski the slopes the rest of the weekend....the mostly-empty slopes.

Fingers crossed that the snow just down is staying and is in good condition. It's cold so the usual mogul fields won't form as easily....which is a shame because the Dutch bounce over them nicely.

Following weekend, Klosters. That also should be good smile

A lot of decent resorts are now trying to position themselves as more all year resorts.

Reality is for tourists they're "Christmas to Easter" then "July & August" perhaps extending into the Interseasons (June and September) with shope staying open.

I've not been to Interlaken in the Summer for a long time but other resorts that I know of that have a good Summer seasons are Grand Massif (particularly Samoens), Portes du SOleil (Particularly Morzine), Chamonix (has more visitors in the SUmmer than the WInter allegedly).

I don't think Espace Killy has that good a summer season, nor does the Trois Valleys, the mid Tarantaise seems to be OK (particularly Bourg St Maurice), in the southern French Alps Alpe d'Huez seems to be busier than Les Deux Alpes.

The common factors as to what makes a good all year round resort seems to me to be if they have a river running through them, is they have leisure facilities such as swimming lake/pools, if they've got some notable road bike climbs (ie HC on the TdF) or an other tourist attractive (ie Mont Blanc in Chamonix).

All of this is anecdotal stuff based on driving round seeing clients in all of them over the non Winter Season.

PM me about Les Gets, I have a chalet there and have a couple of weeks in March not taken yet.
Sleeps 10.
Novice to good inter is catered for very well, off piste can be epic depending on snow cover.
