Kranjska Gora looks good, and some nice looking inexpensive chalets near the slopes, 2 hour transfer from Trieste looks manageable too.
Thanks for the tip, I'll delve a bit deeper tonight
Recommend Kranjska Gora too. Shorter transfer if you can fly to Llubijana. Thanks for the tip, I'll delve a bit deeper tonight
Can also recommend these apartments (lovely couple who can’t do enough for you)

10K is crazy money. Surely any of the package deal companies could do you a week for less than 2k per each, and probably cater it?
half term can be pretty damn expensive tho. package deal catered chalet- £1-1.5k depending on standard of chalet
lift pass- £2-300 depending on resort
ski hire- £100-150?! not 100% on these costs, never hired gear, had my own
lessons- £200-300 for a week of ski school? looking at the same per day for private lessons
lunch/ beer/ hot chocolate- £100 and upwards per person easily. sky is the limit on this one tho!
kit- £100+ again depends if you need any new kit- jackets, thermals, gloves, goggles, helmets......
i totally agree that you can shop around, go to cheaper resorts, book it all yourself. but the £2k per head for half term is not a ridiculous figure, it spins adds up!

have a look at Andorra for a family holiday, we go to soldeu and its pretty cheap when you are there and the ski school is outstanding
The telegraph reviews flag ithe village is like a concrete jungle (never been personally). Also at every weekend the French come in their droves packing out the mountain. Cheap it might be but then you get much less skiing. I go to Bansko that’s value skiing and challenging runs too but that gets busy with Greeks Turks Macedonians on the weekends & from my experience queues are not applicable to so many individuals

In Andorra its Pas de la Casa that's the concrete jungle and just over the French border - its a 'lively' place, often full of University ski trips etc.
Soldeu is a lot nicer - the ski areas are connected but it's a much nicer village.
I have a place in El Tarter in the same area but a bit more residential & less hotels - My wife is there for the season and I travel there every weekend and work in the UK.
We also get quite a lot of weekenders up from the Barcelona region and Saturday can be quite busy.
The food & drink on the mountain is pretty reasonable compared to the Alps, it's a good ski area and first rate medical facilities which was something that would put me off some other cheaper locations.

Off to Banff for a couple of weeks in mid February. Haven't boarded since my first go 4 years ago so got a morning lesson booked so I can make the most of it.
Bit nervous but sure it will be fun. Fingers crossed for power.
It's great here at the moment. Temperatures have warmed up since last week to a much more pleasant -2/-3 in town. Bit nervous but sure it will be fun. Fingers crossed for power.
All three hills are in fine condition so far, with Sunshine getting an extra 7cm top-up just last night.
Off to Val D’Isere on Saturday for a week on Saturday. Can’t wait, just hoping the forecast top up arrives and it doesn’t get too warm as it may well do, that may cause rain lower down towards Brev but should still be good higher up. Last time I went to Espace Killy there was crazy amounts of snow so it probably won’t compare off piste but if the sun is shining I’ll be happy enough on nicely groomed pistes with regular beer stops!
I hope this doesn't come across as an advert as we don't normally rent our chalet out but we aren't using it between 10-27 Feb which includes half term if anyone's interested in renting it from us. It's a 3 double bedroom detached chalet in grand massif a 5 mins drive from the lift. PM me if interested.

We are in Banff at the mo with the wonderful ice sculptures as posted. Conditions are superb.
Skied Whistler but prefer Banff even tho it’s a bus ride to the ski centres.
Beautiful area.
Gin festival this weekend too.
You guys have me excited now. Also first time flying business so excited for that as well (sorry for the humblebrag). I have only been there is summer so looking forward to the difference between seasons.Skied Whistler but prefer Banff even tho it’s a bus ride to the ski centres.

Humblebrag away. Flying business on that length of journey makes all the difference to the enjoyment of the trip. I consider it to be a part of the holiday and factor in the cost accordingly.Lay back and enjoy the flight.
