We have a road-trip planned starting this weekend with 3 nights in Dusseldorf before heading off to Munich and then onto Austria. Any must sees or do's in Dusseldorf that anyone wants to recommend?

Thanks

Roger

Wow, three nights in Düsseldorf.......

I spent a year there one night earlier this year smile

Enough said hehe

Honestly, I go there to work once or twice a year with likeminded chaps who enjoy nothing more than a really good drink and I can’t remember a good night out! Not because I was drunk........it’s so boring!

Three nights in Düsseldorf? Blimey

Go to the Altstadt for an evening. Visit Schumachers for beer and sausages.

Mayur, in Carlstadt by the river was, at the time, genuinely the best Indian restaurant I'd ever been to. It may have changed.

Other than those, go to Köln.

Thanks all. Location now changed to Cologne, the reason we chose Düsseldorf was a recommendation from a work colleague (who is German). Maybe it was payback for something!

Colgone, Motorworld is worth a look! I'm a Schumacher fan so went for the Schumacher private collection.

Cologne is also a good night out! many a time have rolled in at 5am.

Cologne is definitely the more entertaining city, very friendly. It's easy enough to do a day trip up to Dusseldorf if you want to visit - around 30 min on the train (take an RE/IC/ICE train rather than the slow S-Bahn)

They're both great towns with delicious competing beer styles. They keep bringing you beers until you put your coaster over your glass which is handy.

I'd recommend doing a day trip to Dusseldorf (only 30 mins on the train) to try the Alt beer and I think it's a cute town to wander for a day (although not much to "do" besides drink). There were loads of German and Dutch stag and hen parties rolling down Ratinger Str. when we there on a Saturday night! My favourite pub / breweries in Dusseldorf are:

Brauerei Schumacher

Uerige Obergärige Hausbrauerei - sitting outside if it's a nice day is amazing!

Brauerei im Füchschen

And in Koln:

Früh am Dom - my favourite Kolsch - sitting out the back and watching them roll in a fresh keg every 10 minutes was hypnotic.

Peter's Brauhaus - touristy but the glass dome is pretty cool and the beer is good

Brauhaus Sünner im Walfisch - nice traditional interior
