The ex leader of the Labour Party a guy called Ivan Taylor is still looked at in fear by other Labour councillors. What Ivan wants Ivan gets. .

Junior LFB is about to start at Fleetwood Maritime College so we're heading up this weekend.
I did very early years up in Blackpool but left with parents as a nipper in '70, vaguely remember going to a school called Norbreck(?) and a place called Bispham. Now a confirmed soft Southerner.
Not been back since so this thread a fascinating read. I've promised the family a trip into Blackpool on Saturday evening, quite looking forward to the adventure! Took the cowardly option and sorted out a hotel in Fleetwood.

Fleetwood ?Dear.
God.
That is all.
Mrs LFB already slightly twitchy about heading further North than Birmingham but she called the hotel herself to book so I can't be blamed.
At least it's only one night.

I recommend you take a book or ensure you have good internet access.
I'm reasonably sure they have "the internet" in Fleetwood.
I could be wrong though.
Be sure to report back. Let us know what you think !

Norbreck was a bit further North than Bispham and there still is a Norbreck based school
Fleetwood Nautical College is quite well regarded
If you decide to go into Blackpool and catch one of the old fashioned trams you need to look out for stops that are marked as Heritage Tram Stops which are fewer than the stops for the more modern trams. I have seen many people make that mistake as the old fashioned ones go past the stops

The Pleasure Beach thing may have something to do with a loan the council made perhaps the arrangement made was that someone from the council sits on the board ?
I just find him a little dubious.

North Euston? If its not the Euston then goodluck, actually if it is... Goodluck. I did very early years up in Blackpool but left with parents as a nipper in '70, vaguely remember going to a school called Norbreck(?) and a place called Bispham. Now a confirmed soft Southerner.

I went to the nautical college, 25 years ago, met and married a Fleetwood girl.
Goodluck to your lad, it's not as bad as it was 20 years ago but by the sounds of things he's in for a culture shock.

Thanks for that. Having spent nine months in New Zealand coaching tennis, he came back to do three months working on the Solent at a rather smart yacht club rescuing/dealing with lots of yummy mummies and their boarding school daughters (if you see what I mean). Culture shock? Oh yes, quite a big one I suspect
Made it back down South unscathed.
Fleetwood (the sea front bit) was fine and classic English seaside fayre albeit with a very end of season feel. Windy as well! Hotel was just fine, clean, good value and other guests seemed to be mainly attendees of a folk festival. Outlet village on the old docks site no better or worse than any other I’ve been in.
Tram worked well, took that into Blackpool, nice staff and more than happy to help a tourist.
Blackpool is as posters described, what a mess! However lights were good, found a decent (no fish and chip) place to eat and it was quite lively. Would be great to see it after some serious investment. Didn’t venture off the main drag.
An entertaining trip at frankly peanuts money so no complaints.

Those of you decrying Blackpool have obviously missed the best bit. Blackpool's 390 acre Stanley Park has just been awarded the title Best Park in Britain.
