Oh and for those who seem to think that pushing knees into the seat back makes a difference to comfort, you’re vastly wrong in the main and it’s nigh imperceptible to the sitter in front.
I agree they probably cant feel it but knees wedged up against the chair in front stops them reclining.

That button needs either removing, locking (to be unlocked after consent of the person behind) or only accessible from the person behind.
So the person behind dictates your comfort level?

If it was that big an issue airlines would not let seats recline. But they do, so how much of an issue is it for them? Negligible I assume. They are very efficient at addressing problems on flights.

I really don't understand the issue. Far more irritating, annoying, unhealthy things happen on every flight, that I have ever been on anyway.
It’s definitely an issue for airlines that’s why many airlines are introducing or have introduced non reclining seats in economy for short haul and reducing recline on long haul flights and looking at having non reclining economy seats in long haul too.

A few minutes on google will bring up many articles about airlines changing or having changed their seats due to disagreements on flights caused by reclining economy seats.

All that want to recline pay more and sit at the front?

Because not all planes have extra legroom at the front. Because there's no cost with Zirconia's idea.

If airlines start charging for it as an extra somehow, the only reason will be for profitability. Ie dissect the market further

Sorry I thought Zirconia was only joking, so I made a light hearted reply. Thanks for your info though.

So do you suggest only the passengers on one side can recline even though the recline function would then be available on all seats?

Wouldn’t it be easier and cheaper just to have seats with reduced or no recline which is what’s happening now?

I doubt it's cheaper, definitely preferable.

Like sitting by the window and feeling a fart brewing.

The dilema of should I hold it in, make 2 people move so I can go to the toilet, stifle it and let it out in little peeps, or just let rip?

Make sure it is silent, and enjoy.

Is it really an issue ?

I don't fly often, but I have never sat on a seat that couldn't recline.

I have never been asked not to recline, or to think about when to recline, or ask the person behind if I may recline, or had to ask a steward (ess) how, when and if I may recline.

Airlines are very good at removing problems, I am sure it would be more of a well known issue if it was such an issue.

More often than not, I find short haul seats don’t recline and that’s the right thing. In the last couple of months I have flown to: Croatia, Denmark, Sweden, Glasgow, Frankfurt, Geneva and Lisbon with a range of airlines in either business or economy. None of them had reclining seats.
