It's hard to quantify "Best", but as far as cities go Hong Kong, Singapore and and LA are cool but Rome is definitely the most breathtaking one I've been to
Not much to see or do in LA imo. It's massively overrated....

Someone mentioned Yosemite and I'll second this. For beautiful breathtaking scenery and if you're into walks/outdoor stuff, this is your place. Personally the best place I've ever been to in the World. This picture was taken from the top of Half Dome and was a 12-hour round trip day hike.

You bd. We tried to get permits to climb half dome in September but couldn’t get them, we’re going to try again this year. We ended up doing a 19 miler climbing up to glacier point, around all the falls and back down to the village. Knackering but amazing. Got to be one of the most beautiful places on earth and once you get away from the lowest falls there aren’t too many people around. Ticked off driving the Tioga pass on the same trip, that is bloody beautiful too.

Yep, my wife was almost in tears when we had the email come through telling us we got the permits! We were touring California and we only had 1 day set aside to do this hike so it HAD to be on the day we applied for. We both failed the lottery permit tickets the first time months in advance so our only hope was the 48 hour lottery release window prior to your hike. I failed again but my wife scooped them! We were overjoyed. Rumours have it on the Internet that they favour US citizens but not sure how true this is...

As you say, a lot of people lower down at the falls but once you start to climb higher and further away from the common places, it really is a magical place. Pictures of a lifetime and even then you can't appreciate the beauty and scale of it unless you are there and see it with your own eyes.

I did wonder, we played the lottery for two days one of which wasn’t at the weekend so if the odds on the website are anything to go by we had a very good chance of getting permits. Oh well, we’ll just have to go back!

Douro Valley in Portugal and the Picos de Europa in Spain are up there. Both quite breathtaking (and I'm spoiled when it comes to stunning views!) hehe

Best holiday? Eight weeks cycling across the USA. Started in Washington DC saw a few of the tourist things. Through the Appalachian forests for a few hundred miles to Pitsburgh all off road on old towpath and rail lines.

Through the midwest small town America. Days riding past cornfields. Over the Mississippi then across the plains. Kansas was a bit like being at sea. Towns 40 0r 50 miles apart. The white grain towers would come into view 15 miles out then over the next hour or 90 minutes other lower buildings would appear as I neared the town. Free camping in Kansas small town parks and outdoor swimming pools to cool off.

Then through the Rockies followed by the red rock canyon country of Utah. Then a week crossing the Nevada desert. Followed by a climb up over 10'000 feet for the last mountain range into California. A few easy days through California and a ferry ride across the bay to San Francisco.

coming from a small hilly country like the UK there is something nice about a road going straight and flat to the horizon.

Europe: Budapest. Fisherman's Bastion heading into dusk was spectacular and the city has a unique feel to it, location meant food was a mix of Central, Eastern, & Southeast European. The ruin bar scene is also very cool and unlike anything else i have seen in any other city

Long distance would be Thailand despite the fact its very touristy. Bangkok is awesome and the islands are beautiful with some catering for nightlife and others relaxation. The food is also delicious

For history it has to be the Temples in Cambodia including Angkor Wat

Lots and lots of stunning places, but probably the Vic Falls (flew over it in a microlight).

As far as experiences go, it’s difficult to beat ‘slow’ flights in stunning places.

Circling the peak of Mount Cook in New Zealand in a 5 seater propellor plane is probably the best one I’ve done.

If I was told to head to the airport now and fly back to anywhere I have been to before it would be a hard decision between Singapore and New Orleans, both for very different reasons.

I only got to spend 3 days in Singapore before and I'd love to go back there again and explore it a little more than I did last time.

New Orleans is a city I have a bit of a love / hate relationship with.
I spent a year living there (well just outside of New Orleans in a small town called Diamondhead) so got to know it pretty well, And very few places can live up to the madness of Bourbon Street when you're in the mood for that kind of thing. It's one of the few places that can live up to its reputation.

I think Rome is difficult to beat. It's not too big and you can walk around the major sites in just a weekend if you're short on time.

Get a copy of Eyewitness Rome 2019 and stay somewhere in the Centro Storica. We use an AirbnB 30 metres from the Pantheon and walking around Rome late at night and early in the morning, off season is just great.

Vowed never to return to Rome after 2 visits marred by thieves, pickpockets and child beggars. A view shared by many others I gather.

I don't understand why anybody would go to Rome twice.

A hole, with some fantastic architecture next to slums and similar.

Siena is great. Not been for the palio.

Good to combine with days in Florence, a short train ride away.
