Christmas Markets for family
Discussion
At a risk of sounding like Scrooge’s Humbug - I really do not get this Christmas market guff.
I have just returned from Berlin where they were busy constructing markets on every piece of available space. But they look exactly like the same sheds that you would see in Vienna, Paris or Manchester.
And when they get going the have the same stalls selling festive tat, or gluhwein - all at exorbitant prices.
The notion of taking flights and hotels to visit these places must make poor Greta’s toes curl - now you have ruined her Christmas as well as her childhood.

Has anybody been to Prague for the Christmas market ? I'm trying to decide whether to go Prague or Vienna, I've not visited either before.
The flights to Vienna are cheap but Prague looks more interesting.
Having done both I would go back to prague in heartbeat! The flights to Vienna are cheap but Prague looks more interesting.
Stayed at the Hotel Paris on Prague booked through booking.com was amazing staff were amazing and the city was great.
Vienna we didn't get to the xmas market as it was so busy, also it is very expensive and some of the restaurants had poor service when they realise you aren't local they are not interested in serving you.
the hotel we stayed in was good though.
Not sure it'll look so warm and sunny in December though.

I refuse to go to winter wonderland in London because its just a proper piss take.
Had a look last night and they have a Mr men show on. 2 adults and 2 kids £164!!!! Just for that random show!
Turns out I don't refuse as much as I thought I did.Had a look last night and they have a Mr men show on. 2 adults and 2 kids £164!!!! Just for that random show!
Going to London on the 14th December and have booked the christmas wheel thing and will just mooch around for the day.
Easy cheap in comparison and if we like it, we'll book somewhere in Europe earlier next year.
From experience Bath is absolutely horrendous at Christmas, depending when you go - last time I went it felt like the whole of the south west had been deposited at once!
You didn’t have any space to actually look at anything in any of the stalls due to the sheer volume of people, it was a bit like being a fish in the middle of a migrating shoal!
We are off to Innsbruck in a couple of weeks (not specifically for Xmas market per se, although there is one there)

doesnt matter where you go its the same 5 stalls in a pre fab shed, food varies.
I like doing it becuase you go somewhere fking cold in europe, often snows and it feels a bit christmassy.
done berlin, prague, vienna, stuttgart ...
That was what I wanted more than the market itself, go somewhere that feels like Christmas and preferably old school Christmas rather than every single kid just buying light up st and swinging it around. I hear Bruges is really good.
Glad you are avoiding the UK ones.
I go to Birmingham one usually as its close. But in laws live in Nottingham so we end up there as a family around Xmas time.
Last year the market in Nottingham was terrible. I was genuinely shocked how crap it was. Kids love the big wheel though.
Coventry the last time I contracted there was hilarious. Think it was one cabin
