I am going on an EU road trip this summer which involves France, Germany, Switzerland amongst others and appreciate that some of these countries have road toll systems in place.
I am aware that there are 'toll tags' available which automatically debit to a specified bank account or credit card instead of having to stop and fumble for change every time you get to a toll booth, but my question is - which one ?
has anybody any experience of this type of product, and are they any good?
Any recommendations or tips would be appreciated.

Toll roads are a massive pain in the rear, and has put me off driving in France for many years. However I think if you sign up to their system you simply enter you debit account details, I'm not sure they accept credit cards - but others will soon confirm this.
Germany is a pleasure to drive in. No toll roads that I've ever been on there. Great roads and very easy to get down to Switzerland if entering Europe at Calais or Rotterdam.
Switzerland requires a yearly vignette to be bought - even if you are only driving in the country for one day. About 80euro (I think).
But only needed if you are to use their motorway system. (Sometimes quite hard to avoid to be honest).
But if you plan to visit switzerland for a good few days or even a return visit later in the year then works out to be 'acceptable' given the scenery you drive through

I did a large Europe road trip a couple of years ago. I didn't use any tags as the admin to set them up was too much.
I had no issues as most places take cards and 'fumbling with cash' really isn't that hard. To my advantage I had a passenger, and I didn't frequent the major toll roads near big cities at peak times. I was also only a couple of days in each country so I'd have needed multiple systems to automate it.
I also enjoyed coming to a full stop each time giving me no choice but to launch a full bore restart when the barrier lifted.

Emovis (had for 7 yrs now great)..
Need to use 2+ times a year for it to be worth having on a permeant basis, as they charge 4£ a month activation charge for each month (max of 2 a year).
if you need for a one off, or an italian tele pass then have a look at.
www.tolltickets.com
For short term rental of the unit/s.
You can get Vigenttes for Swiss/Austria (inc Video Tolls) practically any european country, Low emissions stickers for the cities' s well as French/Italian auto toll beacons.
They will post you them, or you can pick them up at Folkestone Services just before the tunnel.
Nb, Have a look at https://www.viamichelin.co.uk this will show the estimated toll costs
& https://autotraveler.ru/en/spravka/fuel-price-in-e... for a guide on where to fill up.
Do you research, as by traveling through say Belgium/Germany/Austria you can save a few hundred quid in tolls and fuels, rather than France..
Enjoy and let us know your route!

Been using emovis tags for about 4 years now. Brilliant. Setting up is easy, no more searching for cash, cards, queues, passenger reaching out window (not ideal if you're partner is short and you're in a low sports car!). Currently researching telepass tags for Italy, which are also valid for France, Spain and Portugal.
Swiss vignettes are 38eu, Austrian ones can be got for a few eu for 10 days.

Swiss one does not cover TMB & St Barnard tunnel, and the Austrian one there’s a number of additional ‘video tolls’ ie Brenner.Look at the tollticket link above for vignettes and also links for the video tolls to pay in advance.

+1 Emovis tags simple to set up and use, awesome for queue jumping and that rush of adrenaline when approaching the barrier at 30kph wondering if your tag is still active and will work....... MrThomo said:

Aim for the 30kph or tag only barrier and watch all the French registered cars behind you do a almost suicidal split second lane change to avoid getting stuck behind cet idiot anglais.
Another very happy user of the emovis Liber-t tag. It makes things so much quicker and easier.
Cheapest way to get it is through this page https://www.emovis-tag.co.uk/Eurotunnel-Le-Shuttle... but you will need a EuroTunnel booming reference to sign up.
The Swiss vignette is sold in lots of garages near the border, and this is much quicker than buying at the border itself...
Don’t forget you may also need Crit’Air sticker for France and the German umweltplakette if you want to drive into some areas. Easy to apply from UK before you go.
Download the Green-Zones app which will help you select what you need for each country. Waze also allows you to add which passes you have and will help to avoid any areas which you can’t enter
