We are going in February so it’s on our minds also.
Check the Bangkok Post and Thai Visa forums for the latest updates.

Just crack on with it.

I was in Taiwan 2 weeks ago for 3 days, Japan last week for a couple of days am and supposed to be heading back across to Asia to Singapore for the Air Show next weekend.

I occasionally wear a mask if I’m in heavily populated areas like the Metro / MRT but just practice general good hygiene.

I really wouldn’t worry too much at the moment.

I’m going in a couple of weeks with my 62 year old Mum. Bit concerned to be honest.

Keep an eye on it but pull it if needed. Ignore insurance etc but make a sensible decision- for sure the financials would suck but look at the bigger picture.

At present, 8 cases discovered in Thailand, and 5 of those have already returned to China. There are mentions on some sources that Chinese tour groups are banned from travel overseas.

Pretty low risk at the moment.

Not sure if I'm missing something but it's fairly low risk anyway isn't it? I mean it's a 2-3% mortality rate and if you're fit and healthy probably be like getting a bad cold? Cashier in the petrol station on the weekend told me he was really worried about it. Was reading the Sun. I'd never met him before, he just started telling me how he thought it was going to be the end of the world. Saying that, he thought 2-3% mortality meant 2-3% chance of survival until I corrected him. He seemed happier as I left anyway.

I have seen the doom-mongery in the Coronavirus thread and I don't buy into it.

However,
I am not pulling the plug on my Holiday yet but I am going to get very twitchy if human-to-human transmission is observed within Thailand. From there, it seems likely that the number of cases will rise exponentially- and due to the timing of all this, that will be happening pretty much exacty when we are supposed to be heading East.

the official view on it..... not great reading. get the impression they will say anything to protect tourism.

seems to be doubling on a daily basis tho.

I wouldnt be too concerned save Chinese flood into Thailand this time of year.

Very much considering pulling now as its been confirmed transmission during incubation so all those checks are useless with a high contagion figure.

If you have good hygiene and are sensible I think you would have a greater chance of being knocked over by traffic in Bangkok than getting the virus.

Nobody has died in Thailand. As yet all cases are Chinese nationals who caught it in China. Depending on how much trust you place in the Chinese government it is just a mild fever, unless immunosuppressed or eldery, then you are at a higher risk.

Thousands dying from the flu in the USA, which is more contagious, yet nobody seems concerned about that

We're due out there in a couple of months; hoping by then it's all blown over so no need to worry, or it's definitely a problem so we should definitely cancel.

Until then I'm keeping an eye on the map here (https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/thailand) to make sure our destinations aren't on the list.

In Vietnam now. Cambodia later today. Back to BKK in 10 days. Lots of people wear masks including us in busy areas.

Wear a mask, don't touch your mouth nose eyes when in places where others touch things. Mask off and relax when out if crowded places.

Its not affecting us much but we are being careful , as is everyone else, except the chinese., Who are insisting on travelling regardless. Plane load flew into danang this week and infected 12 people. Vietnamese are not happy at all with them. Particularly the bat eating bit.

Not seen any sweaty coughers yet.

Approaching Hanoi airport and will buy hand sanitizer.

And to whomever said what's to worry about, it is rarely fatal..... Come over here. The paranoia is real. No one wants to be that person who coughs in the restaurant. And the possibility of pneumonia is pretty frightening.

The health office in Chiang Mai said on Monday (January 27) that the Public Health Ministry had instructed provincial health offices to stop reporting the numbers of suspected and confirmed coronavirus cases and wait for the official announcement from the ministry after China announced a ban of all flight to the province after February 7.

No updated figures on cases until 7 Feb....

Draw your own conclusions on that!

Only you can make a decision that is best for your circumstances.
We go in 3 weeks ,so I expect we will have more concrete information to act upon.

Flying to Bangkok at the start of April so I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that it won't cause us to cancel.

Might delay booking accommodation for a few weeks though

That is concerning for me as I fly on the 6th. I could land to news that there are hundreds of cases and the FCO has updated its travel information to 'don't'.

you would only do that if the actual numbers are bad and you want to prioritize tourism over healthcare. unless you can think of another more logical reason?

There are many reasons could be considered of which these are just a pinch:-
They want the figures to be accurate and controlled (which I would expect from a civilised Western country - which China isn’t).
They want to conceal the numbers FULLSTOP.
They realise they may be knackered for some time so are happy to allow a level playing field across the world so that lots of countries too thus giving them lore control of future activities. Obviously this would be unethical and morally wrong....
