Do you want your room cleaning daily?

You can ask them next time you go. It's pretty common knowledge, especially in the major chains.
I did in New Orleans and it wasn’t. It just lightened the load of the ladies that worked there and I got a free G&T each day.Google doesn’t seem to turn up anything of the sort either?

Who on earth would ever take a credit in lieu of house keeping? That would be outrageous. I've stayed in hotels all over the world and have never even heard of this - we must stay in very different hotels! If there are indeed hotels that run this policy, I'd never stay there.
Why it's pity outrageous not to pay for a service you don't want? GetCarter said:

A lot of hotels in the States offer you money off at check out if you’ve not utilised their services. Some just offer points which I wouldn’t bother with obviously. Ostensibly for not wasting the vast amounts of water and power that laundering clean sheets and towels uses. Of course it does mean they can employ fewer maids if enough people take them up on the offer. As others have said, there is no need to change sheets/towels every day. I have lived in hotels all over the world and this is one of my pet hates!
I much prefer to let housekeeping know when my room needs a change of bedding and bathroom towels, and it used to annoy me when on a days grace from the grind, and wishing to watch, say, the GP on tv undisturbed, that HK are banging on the door to do their service!

I've never come across that in the States, but haven't been there for more than a decade. I still think it's outrageous that you can forego room service, save a few bob and housekeeping won't get paid. I skip housekeeping as I don't need new towels every day and want to save them some work!

I’m not really sure where that other poster is getting their info from tbh. Sounds like an urban myth to me.O/T: I always leave a big tip in the room for housekeeping as, let's face it, they have a rubbish job.
I did find this which is interesting (and stupid):

I tip too, it’s not a job I’d do.

Alas that tip GetCarter will probably not go to the cleaners. As soon as you checkout the supervisor goes to the room and sees if it's in order. Then picks up the tip. The whole industry needs over hauling.

Last two years visiting several US National Park lodgings I’ve been asked at every check in whether we would like to have a credit applied to our account at check out if we only have a cursory daily room visit to top up amenities. If We’re only there for a few nights it’s fine but not longer.
Here is my take on it.
As some point out when i'm at home I don't expect my house cleaning every day, so really why would I when on holiday? Ok so it's paid for and you expect to be looked after whilst on holiday, I get that too, but here's the thing; it's actually a nuisance.
I'm here to relax so for the first few days I want a lie in, I don't want someone banging on my door at 9am or whatever to get me up so they can clean.
The other thing is this, at home I drop everything and go off to work, I come home and everything is still there; The keys to so and so, the £20 I owe Bob, mobile phone if I forget it,the big dildo and the lube, the underwear thrown over the chair, the laptop, you know, personal stuff, (maybe i'm too precious here?)
But I can't do that on holiday, I have to actually tidy up every day, so they can tidy up! That is a chore I can do without, i'd rather just be able to shut the door and leave 'as is' go out for the day safe in the knowledge some stranger isn't going to come in there.
Personally I wouldn't care if they came in at all in 2 weeks, as long as the fruit, coffee and milk were replenished somehow, but lets say it was cut down to every 3 days instead and that saving applied elsewhere like a free bottle of wine every day or whatever...

I NEVER let them 'turn down the bed'... WTF is that all about?
No idea. The first time I was ever asked this, many years ago, I had to ask what they meant. I thought they were joking when they told me.No doubt there will be some multiple-director types on here who insist on it though. Anyone?
Mrs Langtounlad & I stayed in a nice hotel in Harrogate last weekend. 1st time I'd experienced it, but there was a leaflet in the room which offered a 'free' drink each night for each of us if we were willing to forgo room service each night. We were staying for two nights only so were happy to have the free drinks and help save the planet. We don't change the towels or bed linen each day at home, and aren't messy, so no hardship incurred. I can see how it's a win-win for both parties. Nice to have an unexpected free drink and the savings for the hotel must outweigh the actual cost of the alcohol provided.
In some very nice hotels, turndown is achieved in incremental stages through the day. If you haven’t put DnD on the door your room will be visited every 2-3 hours. At each visit small changes will be made - the decorative cushions removed from your bed, the corner of the cover turned down, the decorative cover removed, the corner of the duvet turned down, the sheet folded carefully over the turndown etc until full turned-down status is achieved around 9pm. Stay in one long enough, and you can tell what time of day it is by the presentation of your bed...
