the death rate is not 2 - 3 % as some here are stating but lower as they believe the Chinese have far more cases than they are admitting.
So they’re being straight with the number of deaths but not the number of infections?
Yep, that makes sense.
Or B.....

Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV). A novel coronavirus (nCoV) is a new strain that has not been previously identified in humans.
Do the bits in bold not concern you even in the slightest?
Why would they?

At some point nothing had been identified in humans, it is part of the learning curve of fighting off infectious diseases, this one might potentially lead to a cure for a future pandemic that is actually 30/40/50/60 % fatal.

Everyday we are told something else is going to kill us, wipe out the human race, end the planet; I’m just plodding along, enjoying myself, not worrying about anything I can’t influence and being sensible in terms of everything in moderation smile

IT is just the flu
That is not correct. It is a SARS virus. Coronavirus is a broad category.

'Just' the flu doesn't make much sense anyway, as the flu kills a lot of people.

This virus seems to not show symptoms for a couple of weeks, but you are infectious for that period, it lives for a relatively long time out side of the body, is easily transmitted and easily caught.

I am not enormously worried about it as the majority of people seem to get mild symptoms, but at the moment erring on the side of caution might pay off.

I am due to go to Orlando in a few weeks for a few days, it's a short haul flight and I will be travelling from a city which has a major airport and lots of travel in and out so most likely coming here what ever I do. It is a concern though.

edit:

Learn to wash your hands and we will be ok
This is also not true. How is washing your hands going to help the person next to you who won't have any symptoms for the next two weeks coughing near you and some of that material entering your mouth or eye?

Like I say, I am not overly concerned, but I don't think it is right to peddle misinformation either as you are doing.

Completely agree. AllanV hasn’t got a clue. It’s nothing like the flu.
It is just the flu or a new strain but yet I see people not washing their hands leaving the toilet.

Am I going to stop going out ot the pub or into town, well nope.

The only people that seem so scared are Londoners and those from that there Yorkshire.

The rest of us do not give a st and do not watch the news or SM.

I’m not scared in the slightest as I’m a fit and well 35 year old, but I’m certainly not sticking my 4 month old daughter on a plane back from Tenerife next week. For sake of losing £600 I’d never forgive myself if she caught it.

I looked on the hotel booking sites last night at Tenerife- seemed really busy- people looking for a bargain, realising you're more likely to get killed going to the airport and maybe the fact they might have to "self-isolate" on return and getting an extra 2 weeks thrown in!
Happy days!

France has banned indoor gatherings of 5000 people or more ,much like Switzerland have done but their figure is 1000+

I want to go to something in April ,first day is indoor in Paris but they could ban the public from entering and then it's all

outside.

Hoping it still goes ahead.

Due to go to HK for 2 days, Bali for 10 and Singapore for 3 starting 5th May. My only concern is maybe not being able to do much in HK. Wife is having real concerns about going though.

It’s not “the flu” and even if it was “the flu”, I’d say protecting a four month old from it isn’t being overly dramatic.

Absolutely. Realistically, though the risks of catching the virus are minuscule. I’d wait until the go/no go date were much nearer until deciding.

Important to get the balance between panic and complacency at somewhere reasonable.

Miniscule is down playing it a tad I think as even the WHO have said it is quite infectious

You are probably right. Currently 1/2,000,000 chance, if you believe the figures latest figures.

We’re due to fly to Buenos Aires in 2 weeks where we join a cruise along the Amazon river and finishing up in Miami. Hopefully that won’t be affected too much.

Going to Holland then Madeira next month.

Would a small island dependent on tourism say no to possibly infected UK travellers?

Girlfriend and I were trying to book a Greek island holiday mid Sept last night. Prices seemed to be up and places going fast.

Thought it'd be the opposite especially as it's after the school hols.

The mrs is flying to oz via Singapore in a couple of weeks then all over oz (which is a popular Chinese holiday destination these days)

tbh more worried about flight cancellations and travel restrictions, personally I think with this 2 weeks of contagion with no symptoms, and its been going on what 2 months (?) now, I'm skeptical it's that super terrible infectious. Still, she got masks and sanitizer etc etc for the trip.

We were at till linderman gig the other night, 2000+ international crowd, a band like thousands constantly jetting city to city on global tours...

We were in Singapore a couple of weeks ago. I’d say they’re dealing with it very well. When you go into a building you’ll be handed a hand wipe and probably have your temperature taken.

I don’t think you’ll find many Chinese tourists in Australia or indeed anywhere else. We were in New Zealand before Singapore. When we got there early/mid January there were loads of Chinese but they all left and I don’t think the Kiwi’s allowed any more in.

Sounds like a sensible precaution, but does it make for relaxing holiday?

I run a holiday company based in the Greek Islands. September is the new high season! Has been for a few years. We will be changing our pricing structure next year to just 2 bands - low (May and October) and high (June through September).

Just booked 11 nights in Tenerife from 1st of April.

The way I look at it I have as much chance of getting it here as over there so why not get it in the sun.
