Just booked 11 nights in Tenerife from 1st of April.

The way I look at it I have as much chance of getting it here as over there so why not get it in the sun.
The issue is almost not so much about actually getting it as being stuck over there either with it or because your hotel gets locked down. That could get really old really quickly!

Am still going Skiing (but by road & self catering ) in 10 days though smile

We're going to Qatar on Friday for the MotoGP, main event has been cancelled due to Italians or anyone who's been in Italy over the last fortnight, are now being quarantined for 14 days on arrival, but Moto2 & 3 going ahead as they were already there testing.
Gutted to say the least, we always look forward to seeing the 1st outing, at least we'll get a bit of a fix.

Going to Holland then Madeira next month.

Would a small island dependent on tourism say no to possibly infected UK travellers?

Girlfriend and I were trying to book a Greek island holiday mid Sept last night. Prices seemed to be up and places going fast.

Thought it'd be the opposite especially as it's after the school hols.
I run a holiday company based in the Greek Islands. September is the new high season! Has been for a few years. We will be changing our pricing structure next year to just 2 bands - low (May and October) and high (June through September).
Interesting. We were in Kefalonia last August. Loved it, was incredibly hot, even the locals said it was too hot.

Is that the reason Sept is the new high season?

It’s not “the flu” and even if it was “the flu”, I’d say protecting a four month old from it isn’t being overly dramatic.
No child under 10 has died yet. It seems to be one of those viruses that kids catch but that don’t seem to carry any real risk to life. The chances of dying between ages 10-19 are 1 in 500. So as a kid unless you have a serious underlying health issue Coronavirus is basically an annoyance.

I understand people’s desire to protect their kids but it’s not them that are really at risk with this virus.

Trekking holiday booked in northern Italy (not quarantined areas) in Sept. still planning on going unless I can’t - i.e UK govt issues travel warning. People need to remember that if you are fit and healthy this virus is no worse for you than typical flu. Fact. The issue is for those with underlying health conditions as there is no vaccine for them (unlike flu) .
I have a friend - consultant NHS - involved in the UK preparations who tells me that the death rate is not 2 - 3 % as some here are stating but lower as they believe the Chinese have far more cases than they are admitting.
So if the Chinese are bending the figures why are they bending them to look worse?
The rate leaving hospital there is about 12 for every death at the mo, so about 7% btw.

Most cases will be going undetected because people won’t be attending hospital unless they’re badly affected.

I have to travel a large amount for work, so I'm loving the break of not having to do this!

I hate being stuck in places, I was stuck over in Dubai during the old dust cloud fiasco, even though I was in a 5* hotel it got boring very very quickly. Therefore the thought of getting quarantined and having to deal with a poor health service in another part of the world doesn't hold much joy for me so staycation for me this year.

From WHO:
Aylward says WHO mission found no evidence of lots of undetected mild #covid19 cases. That would mean percentage of severe cases and percentage of deaths we’re seeing now is real.

But who knows the real truth?

With the Chinese it’s anyone’s guess. The mortality rate you quoted above was for those admitted to hospital though right? So not everyone since younger people in particular won’t need to be hospitalised? (Genuine question, I only know as much as I’ve read and it appears a lot of that is guesswork)

The child of a friend who lives in France was on her way to Norway for a month this morning on a school trip. Are turning around now as apparently school trips out of the country have just been banned.

Well, the first day of Fallas in Valencia has kicked off as usual with "tens of thousands" of people crammed into the main square. This is despite approx. 2,500 locals having recently returned from a football match somewhere in Northern Italy.

Fingers crossed it stays this way.

Goodness knows - WHO complimented the Chinese for their record keeping but who is to say? There must be some that never needed anything and so presumably were never recorded.

Anyone been in Japan the last few weeks? Concerned to understand how much is closed and whether travelling would be a pointless endeavour.

I am looking to spend Easter in the Alicante (30 mins inland) region. Taking the ferry and driving from Bilbao to a villa in a rural non tourist area. Not planning on altering it, but maybe the ferry companies or governments may be.

Some of the Easter festivals may be off limits this year (palms etc). We planned to spend a lot of time exploring the countryside, so probably won’t encounter too many crowds smile

I was at the Elche match yesterday pm along with 10,500 others. Fiestas and usual Spanish life is reassuringly the same as it always was. Watching El Classico last night and half the country is in gatherings, whether at the stadium or filling every bar across the country!

July/August has always been too hot for most people.

Off to Furteventura soon.

We always self isolate in a remote villa far away from the football strip wearing beer and chips in the sunshine Chavs that infest the holiday resorts so providing we don't get coughed all over whilst traveling it'll be fine. smile

We won’t be far from there. Villa in La Montanosa, between Hondon de las Nieves / Frailes.
