Enjoy your fear in your life, must be such a shame to be so scared all your life, bless.
And just to be clear, I’m not in the least bit scared as I’ve always been fit and healthy enough to ward off any infections largely unassisted, and I don’t and never have had any underlying health issues.
So to put you back in your box, I am not scared, just mildly concerned about the general impact all this is going to have when various authorities, powers and state agencies have to start taking control, not because we’re all scared of them, but because of knobbers who refuse to follow a tiny little bit of advice and some basic preventative measures.
I mean it’s only flu after all.

Off to Singapore and Bali in two months, not particularly concerned.
Some friends of friends planned to return from New Zealand via 3-days in Singapore, this week.

They thought, “why take the risk?”, and contacted Singapore Airlines to see if they could just transit through.

“No problem”, said Singapore Airlines, “we have the seats - the cost will be £6000 each”

Every cloud has a silver lining, for somebody.
We were stopping at Singapore next week for 2 nights, on our way to Australia. We cancelled the 2 nights and are just stopping there to refuel. £200 each extra.

With the prices in Singa as they are, you’ve saved a fortune!

As far as travel goes, I’m of the “carry on. As long as you’re reasonably healthy it’s no worse the a bad cold” school of thought
And all the less-than-healthy people you might pass it on to? Just their tough luck is it?
Poor show.
Where do you stop? Same with a cold / flu / umpteen other ailments.
Other ailments are treatable/less contagious/more obvious in their symptoms.
This Covid thing appear to have upped the ante somewhat and just chucking caution to the wind and saying “Pah...what’s the worse that can happen?” is a little reckless/selfish.
If I went to a country, caught flu, came home and passed it to my in-laws / parents and they, sadly, passed away from it, no-one would bat an eyelid.
What’s different?
A couple of things....
The mortality rate is around ten times higher than “normal” flu. It’s still single figure percentages but it’s significantly higher than other viral infections.
It’s transmissible well before a carrier is displaying symptoms themselves so it’s being passed on by people who don’t even know they’ve got it.
I live in UK and work in Asia. What am I to do? Stop travel? For how long? My individual impact to GDP is absolutely minuscule but multiply that by lord knows how many and it starts to impact.
Yes, it does doesn’t it?
Which is why this thing needs containing, the sooner the better.

I don’t disagree. The biggest impact will be global trade stopping through over-reaction, though. That will have a more profound and longer lasting impact than the bug itself

Surely to contain the virus is the most important thing otherwise it’s everywhere killing people in large numbers and no cure of any kind YET.

Learn to wash your hands and we will be ok

Happy now oh bless?

The problem is people not following hygiene, once you can master it life will be fine with no panic involved.

And yes it is only the flu.

Think there are a few people commenting here with very strange opinions, but each one to their own!

Just an observation again but unless i'm wrong don't all of these things seem to start in China with someone eating a bats bk, panda's anus or possums cock?
It all seems a bit coincidental to me as they would have been doing this for many years, it would seem without coronavirus.
In theory, you would think there should be less wild animals eaten nowadays due to mass production, but then again what do i know.

I am in Lanzarote at the moment.

The local government has rounded up all the tourists to go to the ferry port and bayonet all the Tenerifiens back into the ocean.

Other than that, all is well.

Supposed to be skiing on the French/Italian border in a couple of weeks.

Going by road via the tunnel & self catering. One overnight stop on the way down & another on the way back. On balance (at the moment) I think we will probably go & just not eat out so much. If I was flying & staying in a hotel maybe I might take a different view.

About as likely to catch something there as if we stay at home (unless we lock ourselves in the house for a week!)

It's not really a "tiny bit of advice/preventative measures". It's staying at home for 2 weeks if you have been anywhere you might get it (i.e. any airport etc). Plus presumably people dropping off food etc outside your door so you don't risk spreading it at shops etc. At least it should be that way if we really want to stop it. If it's just a case of quarantining people if they show symptoms we'll always be behind the spread and it will go around the world anyway.

That’s not preventative though is it?
If you’re isolating you’re already at the reactive treatment stage.
Preventative means avoiding the airport in the first place, wearing a mask, heightened hygiene regime and so on.

I am. Flying on 20 March to Tokyo via Moscow for two weeks. In same boat insurance wise. Can cancel some hotels for free but would still be out one hotel (400), rail passes (660), flights (840). Currently still intending to travel but things seem to be getting worse in Japan not better.

Indeed, they just shut all of the schools for a month.

Somewhat concerning. Not sure at what point we start to think about cancelling. Gonna see what happens over the next week.
