just bought the car 2.7 981.

the pcm seems very basic. its version 12112964 but not sure what PCM version

however it's got no USB input and can not stream music from the bluetooth phone.

jesus I wrongly assumed it would have theses.

am I stuffed and just gave in to sticking with retro 3.5mm jack again

I have 2014 2.7 Cayman.

I have PCM with phone prep and sound system plus. It has a 40GB "jukebox" and there's a USB slot in the glovebox. Not tried bluetooth steaming but I guess it's there too.

Does yours have none of these? If not, and you wanted them, it's down to picking the right used spec. So many options it's easy to miss a few missing ones.

Same as in my 2013 981.

I have a Bluetooth plug in for the pcm that I would sell cheaply.

I took the pcm out and fitted a high end Kenwood double din, it has apple car play, dab, 2x usb, cd, reverse cam, dash cam, nav by garmin plus waze and Spotify etc...plus Bluetooth.

I'm old and my PCM suits me fine. I tried the 2019 718 sat nav and it didn't know the road system had changed in 2017 and took me the wrong way. Guess it takes a few years to update these things?

Had a top spec A4 courtesy car a while ago. Dazzling tech beyond me apart from I couldn't find the volume control. Ah... they've tacked on a tacky little knob to the centre console. Just like the person who designed it...

Isn't there an 'add-on' part a UK company sells/installs that will convert the PCM to Apple car Play allowing functionality of modern Apps, Waze etc?

Yes, well they are in Jersey. costs about £500 then you need to fit it or pay somebody to. It involves opening the PCM.

No need to spend that sort of money or open up the PCM if all you want to do is Bluetooth music.

Get one of these, plug into the aux port in the glove box, job done.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B075T9ZXK4/ref=cm_sw_r...

£25 all in after wires, 12v to USB adapters (it needs its own power) etc. Then stick your phone on a bog standard magnetic vent holder.

Works fine in my 2013 Cayman.

You can get the aux in part retro-fitted by Porsche for approx £300 i believe, gives you the USB, aux and power in the glove box.

Few of the guys on Boxa.net have had it done

Does this work without dropping Bluetooth? Where did you get a 12v feed from on the car

There’s a 12v and 3.5mm aux in in the glove compartment. I’m assuming that’s standard as my car is poverty spec.

Doesn’t drop Bluetooth at all for me, works seemlessly. Occasionally (once a month?) I might have to reconnect my phone to the system in the phones Bluetooth menu, but that’s a 5 second job when setting off.

It came with my boxster 987.1 when I bought it, it’s not a Porsche part but it has adapters to fit in the optic cable under front bonnet, you just select cd and it bluetooths from there so you can play anything from your phone. Worked perfectly. I just bought a new double din.
