Apologies for going completely off topic, but it's definitely something I'm going to look into, but total claims per annum:

UK travel insurance : £385,000,000
UK Car insurance : £18,000,000,000

Clearly there will be a blip this year, but insurers on average pay out £17.6 Billion per year more on motor claims than travel claims. Insurers could be having a very very good year if motor claims fall through the floor

Right, I'm off to investigate insurance company share prices..

I think that will come down to who has to give those who've missed out this season their money back; will it be the Tour Operator who didn't/couldn't provide the holiday or the Insurer who pays up under the cancelled holiday clause, and that is/will be a messy bun fight!
You're telling me. Are you in sbit?
Yep, luckily there's no way I can get pulled into the PTR fight from either side, but am mediating between Owners and Tour Operators on the other side.

Actually, some good figures there.

Let's say there is a lockdown for 2 months. And that reduces claims by 70%. That would equate to circa 2bn saving. So even with a sharp rise in holiday insurance claims, it is unlikely to get to the same scale as motor insurance. There are a few assumptions you could play with, but I stand corrected, as I think you are most likely right!

But aren't the risks packaged up & syndicated out ? A bit like mortgages - so there will still likely be someone who is heavily into travel, whereas most should be diversified....

Not everything is held on the book of the individual insurance company is it ?

Yeah, I noticed my 7th May flight is still showing in my account. I am guessing they will stagger (by departure dates?) the flight cancellations to manage the cash refunds.

just had a notification from the easyjet app- all hold luggage and sports equipment only £0.99 each way.

very tempting to risk some flights for next season! if I book them on credit card and the flights are cancelled will i be refunded the money?

Had the same message and started to have a look around at flights. Tempted but just not sure how all this is going to play out yet, mainly with my job...

Thanks for letting us know, I've just booked our luggage for next year's trip for a total cost of £5.94, against this year's cost of £156.

Yes saw this on the easyJet website. Finishes on Friday. I think I will buy some flights for next season. I’ll use these for a couple of weekend trips.

For my main two week holiday I will still drive out as we like to have a car whilst there and it’s cheaper then renting one.

The other EasyJet wheeze - and bear with me on this one - is called Hands Free

It costs something like £7 or £16 for a group of up to 6 - and allows you to check in a hand luggage bag.

Now, your wondering what's the point - well, firstly, you check it in before security, so it can contain liquids and gels - and secondly , whilst there's size restriction, there is no weight limit for hand luggage (ultimately the 32kg applies).

So you can put all your heavy stuff into a hand luggage size bag and then relax a bit more with the rest that is charged by weight.

The extra bonus is that if you're a Three mobile customer, then the outbound is free - https://3g.co.uk/guides/three-hands-free-easyjet

My personal best so far is 29Kg - and I'm a Three customer so it cost me nothing - and it was to Barcelona where there's a bus to the terminal, so the bag was there before I was - winner winner smile

Yes, Easyjet will refund you or, if they go bust, the credit card will refund you.

So who's taken the plunge for next season then? Left my job today, so no longer work in ski. Ironically I might get to go skiing next year now.

We have flights booked to Geneva for Feb half term. We’ll be going to Morzine, as we have done for the last 5 years with a large family group. Flights were £200 instead of the £2,000 they would have cost this year.

Still sorting out the chalet, but have used the same chalet company every year and know the owner very well. Fingers crossed it comes off next year.

Ditto everything including the price, but I own accom out there. I've been going there every year for 20yrs!

And we're going there on Aug 8th.

I've even bought some Easyjet reduced luggage at 99p each way for a ski bag, I need to bring back some of the redundant skis and boards in our lockers.

Bring on 2021!

I have an apartment & usually do weekends - I've booked flights from Dec-Feb so far, but not done March yet as I'm now starting to wonder if I can do some full weeks working at home there - and might juggle some of the flights around to accommodate that.....

Assuming my mate still has his apartment & there's an airline and hire cars available, I'll probably be in Valmeinier, France again, early 2021.

Keen to get a couple of ski trips in during 2021 as I've already lost one holiday & my summer one's likely screwed as well.
