No one is stopping anyone from booking a holiday.
Mines 'booked' already for next year (Speed Riding), i was thinking about going to Scandinavia in December but the missus wants to go to Caribbean instead.

If January's quiet for me, ill look to head to France or somewhere and get a week in. If America opens up (which it might due to rapid testing at the airports and something the USA is pushing for, i might head over there). I might stop talking st about going cat skiing and actually do it in East Europe as well.

What im not going to do is come on Pistonheads being all negative because im too scared to travel somewhere and therefore cant have fun and st on anyone else trying to make good the current situation.

Everyone is in the same boat, nobody knows whats going to happen in the future (except Beef being hysterical) but some are just trying to deal with the hand dealt where as others have thrown in the hand already and trying to convince others to do the same.

If i have to wear a poxy mask that i have to wear shopping, so i can get on a lift to do something i love then ill happily wear it it (but not happy to wear it shopping though).

Rant rating 1/10, no swear words, pretty st argument, csb

Pics look great.

A weekend in a Scottish ski resort all in what’s the £?
i have all my own kit, so my day out consists of 2hr drive, £30-35 lift pass, £20 petrol and £10-20 for a spot of lunch or snacks travelling and back home for dinner by 6:30/7pm

but travelling from around the uk and just to humour welshy......

petrol-£75 depends on distance/ how many in car
lift pass- £70 for 2 days
hotel- £100 for 2 nights (could be less for a little b&b or more to stay at gleneagles)
food- £100 cover travelling fri through to home sunday
hire kit- £60 for 2 days

not cheap, but then that’s for 1 person travelling in their own for 2 nights in scotland. split petrol/ hotel costs and suddenly its much cheaper

And if Scotland locks out England tourists - we have these worthy options on our doorstep.
So those 55 "English Ski Resorts" comprise Helvellyn and 54 artificial slopes rolleyes

I do wonder whether someone else is posting on your account - a 50m dry slope is not a "worthy option".

Well indeed - but the article trumpets 55 ski resorts, and for a millisecond I did wonder whether some enterprising farmers had spotted a gap and installed some rope drags on a few hills!

Not if you're travelling with your other half! A few years ago I did price up the cost of the train north or a flight from Manchester + hire car and decent hotel for the two of us (we've got our own kit). All three options (inc driving) turned out to be relatively similar. If there's plenty of snow I might take the plunge this year.

Scottish skiing is either really st or some of the best you'll ever do.

Unfortunately there is no way of knowing which until you get there, and the very next day it can be the opposite of the day before! hehe

If we get really really desperate we’ll head to Iceland, cheap for us as we have free accommodation and access to cars. However, it’s generally windier and colder than Scotland so can be quite bracing, plus the pistes are pretty basic and short.

Mt. Norquay (Banff, Alberta) resort opens this weekend. First resort in Canada to open this season and their earliest opening in 95 years. La Niña kicking off then smile

Had a catch-up with the people I used to work with last night. One of the things that has been heard is that you'll have allocated ski times, ie 9-12 then at other times you'll be confined to your accommodation. No idea if true but certainly viable given how France was earlier this year...

I’m going to wait till after New Year to even think about booking anything.

I’m lucky in that I have access to free accommodation in the Portes Du Soleil (Champery). So if I’m allowed to travel I’ll either book a flight or fill the RS4’s tank a couple of time (OK probably more than a couple wink)

Where is this? I've only read whats going on in Austria and Italy and can't see any form of restrictions in terms of lifts or time outside.

I can see it as a potential contingency should things spike - but very hard to enforce. Would need to be done at a lift pass level really - and then spot checks for those sitting in bars on the mountain.

Or just have big fines for anyone caught breaking the rules and do spot checks in the lift lines. Would probably discourage most from breaking the rules.

Can't see it happening though. As everyone else has said, the ski resorts are going to struggle enough as it is without stuff like this discouraging people further.

Assumimg that the lift passess are electronic readers presumably the pass could be coded to allow/deny entry - all lifts (inc buttons & drags) where I ski in France have readers, although it would only need to be on the main lift(s) up.

Be an issue if you were caught on the wrong side of the mountain after midday though - esp if in an unfamiliar resort, or if the weather's crap for your allocated time.

Hope it doesn't happen though as the cost of booze to occupy 75% of my time in the mountains will be a killer!

I wouldn't be so sure... a 21:00 curfew has already come into force in the Grand Massif area this week.

Only issue with Canada is - hasn’t it’s borders been st since March20 and there is no sign for those to be opened up meaning it’s only the lucky folk who live in Canada who can enjoy those slopes.
