Summer holidays 2020

Our summer holiday is usually 2 weeks in Spain, not this year... we have stayed home, got wet and will have had 3 nights away, 2 days of which are a boat booked by air bnb

We were in the south of Fuerteventura. Apart from the capital (50 miles away) which we didn't go anywhere near there's virtually no Covid cases. And they're taking the whole Covid thing a darn sight more seriously that we do. ie if you can't keep 2m then wear a mask which is hardly difficult as there's no one there and plenty of hand sanitisation. Can't think of a safer place to be to be honest.

There's pretty much zippo reason the Canaries or the Balearics are on the quarantine list from a Covid point of view unless you're negotiating a Brexit deal and Spain aren't playing ball.

Most civilised break we've had in years and the deals are fantastic. Just can't understand why more people aren't doing it to be honest unless of course they're frightened to come out from behind the sofa.

Woman behind us on the plane (even then she was 3 rows back) paid £19 for her flight.

We’re here now and it’s nicely organised. Most inconvenient bit is wearing a mask when outside from the beach to the car, but it’s not that much of a hardship.

Back from Crete and having to quarantine. Crete still on the quarantine list (as is Mykonos) even though the rate there is lower than anywhere in UK.

Back home now and self isolating for two weeks. With local tier two restrictions it’s not too much of a hardship.

First day back to working from home yesterday after a very nice week in Halkidiki on the Greek mainland. Lovely weather, food and wine made for pretty much the best honeymoon we could have expected on short notice after Etihad cancelled our flights to the Maldives.

Flew with BA, the early flight was probably 50% full at very most and managed to get in a nice nap lying down on 3 seats most of the way there .

I was one of those asked to be tested at Thessaloniki airport, took all of 10 seconds to provide a swab sample then was sent off on my way. We were tested again on arrival at the hotel, just a small pinprick to the finger to provide a blood sample, 15 mins later we were told we were clear and could remove our masks for the rest of our stay.

Other than the staff wearing masks, you wouldn't have even known there was a virus! They had made some adjustments, such as no longer having a buffet (a la carte only) and all drinks to be ordered from the sun lounger / table at all bars, but none of those were downsides in my book, especially when considering how good the staff were!

All in all, would be happy to travel again if organised as well as that.

Consider yourselves lucky, living in England.

I was going to risk a run from a lockdown county in Wales to the airport, next week, for a holiday I booked back in March (after cancelling a holiday in September) but now they've put Wales in total lockdown, the chances of success in reaching the airport along a deserted motorway are now extremely low indeed.

Meanwhile, anyone from England can knock themselves out.

So the apartment has to be sacrificed (only £165 but guess what, the insurance excess is £195) and I'll move the flight to either two days after the national lockdown or two weeks after that.
I can't predict the future but Mr Drakeford promises no extension to the 2 week circuit breaker - so the gamble is making a dash for it, two days after, when traffic is back to normal (who knows if counties will still be locked down) or wait the extra two weeks in the hope the figures keep falling (they're falling now, where I live) and we're released from our prison.

Cue the "selfish bd" comments but I travel alone, live alone and the greatest risk is posed to me is from English people on the plane, I would think.

Mate, just crack-on - I'm in Bromley a borough with hardly any cases, let alone deaths yet am caught up with London. I'm off to a pub in Westerham later....10 minutes down the road and none of the BS. There is nothing in the law stopping you from travelling elsewhere, even if you're in a tier 3 lockdown. Advice is not the law remember.

You can't enter Wales at all, during that period. Two week exclusion to all.

Depends on how dar you want to go. Given the time of year and assuming you are avoiding the half term weeks, then it depends on how far you are willing to travel. Some excellent hotels in the cotswolds and new forest if you want to stay close(wish to London), plus country walks etc. Worcestershire and Cornwall / Devon if you want to head further afield.

You are advised not to enter a Tier 3 area as I seem to remember your partner wasn't keen on breaking 'guidance'. That said, the guidance is that you should adhere to the rules where you live, even if you travel to a less restricted area and I think London is of the no inside mixing persuasion at the moment.

ETA - just looked at the prices for the first 2 places and realised that they have more than doubled their rates compared to last year. On top of that they seemed to be booked out most weekends. Seems that demand is outstripping supply for swanky places during the pandemic.

I have the first week of November booked off. Let's see where I can fly to and from then (if anywhere!). This will be my fourth trip abroad since July. I am quite enjoying COVID travel. So long as you don't book until the last minute it's okay. Cheap, quiet, no screaming kids, empty planes. All good.

Sounds the complete opposite to my two flights in the last week. Had the misfortune of the family from hell in front. Who wouldn’t wear masks. Who moved seats during take off and stood up during landing. Whos kids were drawing on the seats and throwing the safety cards around. Who wouldn’t put the phones on flight mode. Who were watching videos loudly without headphones. Who were arguing with people at the other end of the plane. Who refused to fill in the passenger locator forms. How they were allowed on the return flight I do not know.

We’ve had two holidays and the travelling was a dream. No queues anywhere, planes empty and landing ahead of schedule, quiet in resort and a leisurely full english at Spoons in ter 5 Heathrow.
If we weren’t moving house I’d be looking at something in November too.
