Hi Phil. That certainly is very different from what has been reported here?!

My understanding was that Murcia had restricted mobility among its entire 45 municipalities so unless it could be shown it was essential travel you were confined to your own municipality. You would therefore have unrestricted access around Cartagena (outside of curfew hours) but not be allowed access into other municipalities. The airport trip is the grey area as of course Corvera falls within Murcia city municipality.

In terms of our region, last night it was announced from midnight this evening Valencia region will close its borders for (initially) a one week period. So travel to and from Alicante airport could prove problematic. We do not have the same level of inter-municipality restriction, just confined to the Valencia region. That said, all surrounding provinces had already closed borders with our region so in effect we were land-locked by the closures anyway. It seems the main driving force is the forthcoming bank holiday weekends and the need to avoid Madrileños from being able to entering between the bridge weekends.

On that point, however, it suggests that the Madrileños could travel through a "closed" region to then enter Valencia region if it did not have a formal border restriction. This suggests to me that free travel through "closed" areas is deemed acceptable if you can show proof of your final destination being elsewhere.

As I said yesterday, my gut feeling is that you should have no issue whatsoever, but the laws are far from clear as can be seen.

Good luck and let us know how you fair! 24 degrees today just as a little sweetener for your travel stress.
Hi Shnozz,

You were correct! The LMC authorities have just issued another COVID Update that contradicts the one from this morning setting out the new border restrictions. They do clarify though:

''Are journeys to Corvera and Alicante allowed? Although not on the essential list, as in last March’s lockdown, travelling to / from an airport was allowed. People need to have their tickets and related documentation available if stopped.''

So we should be ok. I have proof of residence with me and our NIE certificates if required to pass in to the Cartagena municipality. It's not as if we are crossing a regional border.

We were not intending venturing out of the Cartagena municipality anyway, simply visiting for the last bit of sunshine this year and some outdoor exercise.

We're taking a couple of race cars to Circuito Guadix for winter testing, arriving Santander 11th December, then driving artic down over the next day or so. I presume as this is 'work', we'll be ok? Brittany Ferries are all 'yeah you'll be fine', but they will say that after taking £1300 off me won't they. Just can't be arsed with any hassle en route.

Any thoughts/insight on this?

Canary Isle require a negative test from 10 days. Going to put a lot of people off travelling, but we might be in lockdown by then anyway!
Where did you see that? It’s not the case at the moment.

Lockdown apparently from next Wednesday.
I plan to go Tenerife on Sunday and don’t fancy being stuck there.
Was there a scramble for flights home last time prior to the lockdown?

Why do they insist on calling them lockdowns when they’re really not? Being able to have visitors to your home is hardly much of a lockdown.

“Lockdown” here is surely just going to be nationwide tier 3 which is again nothing like a lockdown, not that our first one was either.

Sounds more dramatic

It’s nothing compared to the European versions but does seem to be much stricter than the version England is likely to see in the coming weeks.

I an booked to go to St Lucia on Thursday, I assume it we go into a national lockdown which conveniently appears to be on Wednesday from what the press are leaking I won't be able to get on the plane?

Million dollar question. If they’ve got any sense they’ll let as many people leave as possible, reduces the odds of them catching or spreading the lurgy here!

I’m still hopeful that to save face Boris introduces a tier 4 for the worst affected parts of the country and at most raises the rest of us to tier 3 with the threat of tier 4 if we don’t toe the line. There’s not really any reason to stop people going on holiday that I can see given that we are all travelling to places that have a lot less lurgy than us.

Flights weren’t stopped during the first lockdown. I can’t see the FCO advising against all non essential foreign travel or taking St Lucia off the corridor list.

I’d expect you to be going and having a great time.

Watching St Lucia news in dismay at what’s going on in the U.K. whilst having a beer by the beach.

OK great stuff, I have had to cancel 3 holidays this year and have swapped this break twice now and just can't take it anymore! I need to get away as my mental health is struggling somewhat from being restricted from doing anything fun...

God I hope you’re right. I would quite like to go to Barbados rather than sit around this damp country for another “lockdown”, I’ve already completed Netflix and grown my liver to an impressive size.

They are some good deals atm, we paid £850 each for a week all inclusive 5 star at St Lucia Royalton. Doesn't look the best hotel in the world but for the price we couldn't complain!

We’ve got Barbados booked but all cancellable. Fifth set of plans for that leave now if memory serves! I might look at extending our holiday if lockdown is implemented but travel abroad is still permitted, try and stay away for as long as possible.

I’ve been there, I thought it was a lovely hotel, should be nice and quiet too. It’s a bit of a twisty drive to/from the airport though.

In anticipation of the news later today we have cancelled our 5 day trip to Falmouth, Cornwall, next week. If there really is a national lockdown the hotel would be closed and I can avoid any potential charges if I cancel the hotel today.

So that's 5 trips to a variety of destinations cancelled this year! Oh well, there's always 2022!

We are supposed to be heading to Shropshire for a week in a hotel from tomorrow.

Secret Escapes policy is you can cancel and get refunded only if 8 days before.
