We are supposed to be heading to Shropshire for a week in a hotel from tomorrow.

Secret Escapes policy is you can cancel and get refunded only if 8 days before.

Bugger, bugger, bugger
My travel insurance covers governmental stupidity, I mean policy changes. Worth a look?

If travel is not permitted or the hotel is closed you should get refunded - in vouchers as an absolute worst case I’d have thought.

For us older, retired people, would it not make sense to have a 14 day quarantine BEFORE we go and after, as well, if necessary. We could then have a " get out of lockdown free" pass.
At least we could fill those aircraft.

I an booked to go to St Lucia on Thursday, I assume it we go into a national lockdown which conveniently appears to be on Wednesday from what the press are leaking I won't be able to get on the plane?
Flights weren’t stopped during the first lockdown. I can’t see the FCO advising against all non essential foreign travel or taking St Lucia off the corridor list.

I’d expect you to be going and having a great time.

Watching St Lucia news in dismay at what’s going on in the U.K. whilst having a beer by the beach.
Robert Peston reporting:

"4) Outbound international travel will be banned, except for work. It all starts at one second past midnight on Thursday."

Yes, 8 hours before I go.

Probably at the lowest point in my life now... I know people are dying but if schools remain open and unis this lockdown is fking pointless it will go down and then be back up again within a couple of months...

They doesn't appear to be an end and thousands more will lose jobs

So due to go for a week in Ironbridge tomorrow.

I guess the hotel will close on Wednesday. Can't get anyone in charge to tell me what to expect, if we can cancel now or will they refund or voucher our last 4 days.

Supposed to leave early tomorrow.

I don't understand the logic in not allowing people to leave the country.

Because people then want to get into the country once their holiday is finished.

Funnily just seen your tweet on Twitter. My wife had replied to yours.
Trying to see what happens to mine in the morning.

Which is why the 14day self isolation does make sense

Ah but the Welsh lockdown finishes on the 9th November and English restrictions don't apply to the welsh so, in theory, assuming they also lift the Welsh boroughs lockdown, we can still travel in England and leave the country.
I dare say that will change too, given we wouldn't let the English in, will the English let the Welsh out.

I did despite the fact that I wasn’t convinced anyone in authority knew I was supposed to, and I’d have more reason to isolate if I’d been on a trip to Liverpool rather than Crete

Hi Shnozz,

You were correct! The LMC authorities have just issued another COVID Update that contradicts the one from this morning setting out the new border restrictions. They do clarify though:

''Are journeys to Corvera and Alicante allowed? Although not on the essential list, as in last March’s lockdown, travelling to / from an airport was allowed. People need to have their tickets and related documentation available if stopped.''

So we should be ok. I have proof of residence with me and our NIE certificates if required to pass in to the Cartagena municipality. It's not as if we are crossing a regional border.

We were not intending venturing out of the Cartagena municipality anyway, simply visiting for the last bit of sunshine this year and some outdoor exercise.
Made it Shnozz. No police on any municipality borders. Given the news in England tonight, if the situation in Spain remains unchanged we might be staying for a while because we want to. It was 23C when we landed at 5pm smile

Is the flight/holiday actually cancelled? If not you can still travel to the airport early and get there before the lockdown starts at midnight?

I work for an airline and we’re still trying to get clarification about what we can and can’t do regarding travel. End of last week we were getting information about more travel corridors opening and airport testing, then suddenly on Saturday the national lockdown gets announced.

It’s pretty hard to plan in this kind of environment.
