I was tempted to try and book somewhere in France but even if we drive I don't want the risk of getting stuck over there or worse being hospitalised with COVID which insurance won't cover. Don't think it's worth the risk at all, we'll just wait until next year by which time hopefully things will have died down.
We've been having the same conservation here, were considering tunnel and a nice drive somewhere but not worth being stuckTime to see what the UK has to offer
Already had our first holiday to Greece cancelled last week but managed to transfer to another resort in Rhodes.
Not going until the 22nd so hoping things become a bit clearer over the next few days as to whether the Greek govt will allow flights or not.
Shame, but I don’t blame the Greek govt for their actions given the U.K. is full of the plague!

been delaying booking the fast cat to cherbourg from portsmouth for last week of august due to laziness, now our dates has no availability! seems plenty of folks booking up. had to book to Caen on the slow ferry and book cabins too. teach me for being lazy.
would be going home via caen anyway as the fast crossing ends 5th sept. incidentally any idea why that is? sea state must be ok still and you would think there would be plenty of demand until end of september.

A lot of people are booking Eurotunnel to France, prices are going up and time slots are all sold out. Booking a self catering somewhere nice and quiet shouldn't be risky, assuming you don't have small children who want a pool/beach.
If there are then local lock downs in France surely you could drive back to the UK...we never actually closed our borders.

We'll always repatriate, so the worst would be quarantine on return. If there are then local lock downs in France surely you could drive back to the UK...we never actually closed our borders.
We are clinging on to our 2 weeks in South of France from 1st August. We are booked on a campsite in a chalet/mobile home with Alfresco, with hotel overnight stay both ways. The campsite is fully open and seems they have got it all very well planned.
We have held off paying our balance so far and Alfresco have accommodated this. Have to admit I am usually pretty good at making solid decisions but am completely torn so far with this.
We are driving and currently booked on ferry but looking to flip this to tunnel both ways

I usually use the tunnel, not the most convenient, but easier with a dog.
In the current situation it's the obvious choice, with or without pets.
Looks like further spikes/lockdown happening here. I can see a likely hood of localised spikes at holiday destinations, given that Italian ski resorts were the European epicentre a few months ago.

If you swapping over to Eurotunnel, I'd say get on and do it. I'm traveling similar dates, 31st July to 16th August. When I booked early June, there was still good availability. Checked yesterday out of curiosity, not only has price gone up circa between £50 to £75 each way, about 40% of the trains were sold out, We have held off paying our balance so far and Alfresco have accommodated this. Have to admit I am usually pretty good at making solid decisions but am completely torn so far with this.

and 30% now Flexiplus only (double standard ticket price)
Our planned break to Cyprus was cancelled in May.
Now considering something UK based but obviously it's peak period - most cottage bookings that are near the beach appear to be fully booked, not sure we want a hotel either and again struggling to find anything that not silly priced.
SW would be ideal.

Some companies aren't restarting the France routes due to a lack of cabins.
I'sn't it Brittany ferries to st malo? i was led to believe all routes had started with them.As per my other post, we were planning what route to take to Brittany so looked at a few options and all had availability a few weeks back (also via comparison on direct ferries) and went as far as the booking pages, but never booked due to needing to check with other family members who will be where when, but last week when we pulled our finger out to book, direct ferries stopped returning a price for a few of the routes on our dates, and brittany ferries said sold out. maybe they just closed those routes?
