Summer holidays 2020

Looks like the Balearics are about to introduce fast masks to be worn at all times when you are outside, even if it’s just a single person.
FFSI was going to book a trip to Majorca at the end of August, but not now. I do not fancy a holiday with two young children, all walking round with masks on.

Spain seems to exempt kids under 6 in other regions if that makes a difference.I was going to book a trip to Majorca at the end of August, but not now. I do not fancy a holiday with two young children, all walking round with masks on.
Masks will soon be mandatory just about everywhere I reckon.

France (and possibly Italy) seems a more enlightening place for a holiday at the moment.I was going to book a trip to Majorca at the end of August, but not now. I do not fancy a holiday with two young children, all walking round with masks on.
It seems "politics" is the driving force behind much of the recent covid initiatives - which is the main reason for such divergent policies being used for what are often similar levels of covid. Local lockdowns and mask wearing are seemingly the policy hammers preferred by the most virtuous politicians who "care" the most.

Really? You’re basing a holiday in August on what one poster on PHs has said with no link to any actual rules or laws or anything?
No i'm basing it on the news coming from the Balearics...https://www.majorcadailybulletin.com/news/local/20...

“law to wear masks apart from in swimming pools, on beaches or exercising.
Bar and restaurant terrace regulations may be changed as well but the Balearic government will not make it clear until Friday or Saturday.”
From the second
“An official order is to be published either on Friday or Saturday and will apply in all the Balearics, including Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza, according to the Spanish press.”
As is the third, behind a paywall which comes from el pais and again doesn’t confirm where you have to wear a mask.
So nothing in any article or from government backing up the original post.
It may turn out to happen but it hasn’t been announced or confirmed what the rules are yet.

Sounds great...We were in Saint-Leon-Sur-Vezere a few years ago. We are off to Argeles-Sur-Mer (near Perpignan) on 31st. Travelling from North West England so down to Tunnel on 31st and then overnight in Compiegne before smashing out the remaining 950km the following day. I'm happy to sit and drive all day and luckily our kids travel well and are happy enough to sit and watch DVD's etc. Should do it with a 3 stopper.
We're heading to a similar area - Souillac. Any tips on good things to see/do would be welcomed!Edited by Ben Jk on Thursday 9th July 08:05
We're having a stop at Tours on the way down and Le Mans on the way home, it's a bit of a slog with the caravan on the back!
There are good - if often crowded - beaches at Cap d'Agde and old Agde with lots of water sports available if that's your thing. Going further inland, Lac de Salagou is well worth a visit (and possibly staying a couple of days if you have a caravan).
I really don't want to derail this thread, I typed the wrong word and happily corrected myself and posted links, for me this thread is to discuss things, people are naturally going to cite sources they see in the press, you seem to have an issue with this, I dont know why.
Its an evolving situation so people will be naturally nervous about spending a significant amount on a holiday with certain expectations and there is a lot of talk about restrictions that may come in that may mean it doesn't meet those expectations, I don't see what is wrong with discussing that

Sure but posting facts rather than speculation is pretty important if you’re trying to get information and know what’s going on. Your post was speculation and contained misinformation about mask wearing at beaches and pools. That might be important to other people.
I simply pointed out it was inaccurate. I’m not calling you a liar either, as you claimed.
Someone even came on after your post and explained the situation in Spain where he was, again contradicting the speculation you’d posted.
Today and yesterday there’s more speculation posted as facts about masks in the Balearics. The articles quoted even say the announcements haven’t been made yet and there’s still a lot to clarify.
I work in this industry and constantly seeing people posting things that are inaccurate but stated as facts is frustrating.
People posting opinions like on page 1 saying there’d be no summer holidays this year are opinions and that’s great but someone saying “masks are mandatory it at all times outside” etc isn’t correct.

Cheers, mine are 7 and 8 I’ve resigned myself to the fate of wearing a mask in most public places so I’m not going to be put off travelling by it but then I don’t have kids so no hassle factor. I’m sure it’s only a matter of weeks until it becomes mandatory here so they might end up having to get used to them anyway.

I spent a lot of time in that area as a child. Pezenas is a delightful little town, well worth a visit, as is the model village of Villeneuvette which is now given over to various artist and artisan studios.

Thanks for this, unfortunately they're all another 3-4 hour drive from Souillac. Don't think that would go down well with the wife and kids!! Sitting on the terrace of our place in the Dordogne with a bottle of fizz on the go. Was on the 08.20 shuttle this morning and arrived here at 7.30pm.
Popped into the bar in the village for a sharpener on the way through and, as we were unpacking, neighbours popped over with a lovely bottle of 2015 claret and some charcuterie. By all accounts, there's a rush back to normality here although the shuttle was quiet and there weren't as many Dutch/Belgian/German cars on the A28 as normal

Can I ask if there are toilets open at the terminal? Understand you're not allowed out of the car on the shuttle, and every year over the summer Eurotunnel can't manage the bookings so can queue for a couple of hours before even getting to check-in so in need of the toilet will likely be inevitable.
I suggested a she-wee for the car and an empty bottle to the other half, but that didn't go down well...

“Face masks are not mandatory at the beach, at swimming pools, when carrying out sports activities, or at work unless people are working in public spaces or there is public access.”
