I may need to take the family to Brighton Marina imminently. We'll have the car.

We are looking for "nice" rather than budget.

Recommendations appreciated chaps please.

The Old Ship Hotel on Brighton seafront used to be ok but I haven't been for a while.

I'd have to buy the bugger first.

I am not sure, "I am really interested, but I need to spend a night on board with the family first" is going to wash.

So far I am thinking Malmaison or the Grand (just because I have fond memories of it).

Maybe not, and in this weather it would be rather a sudden intro. But it seems you might have that option if you buy it which is a good step.

Buying a boat is closer to buying a small house than buying a car. It will be interesting to see if the internet research works in reality. Enjoy!

We usually stay at The Grand whilst in Brighton, it’s about 30 mins walk to the marina. The Harbour Hotel is ok too

Hotel du Vin, boutique hotel just up the road.
I've stayed there a few times, happy to recommend.

Sure there's a premier inn at the marina?

Brighton is oddly bereft of good hotels. I stayed at The Grand last year and it wasn't really grand. Hotel du Vin is nice, but I will always remember it as the sticky-floored cider-fuelled Berlin Bar in the 90s.

OK, Malmaison released some more rooms and I am in there.

Now, where to eat? All the restaurants in the Marina appear to be chain burger / Italian / casual dining.

Is there anywhere nearby that is good and independent?

If you are perpared to drive, I really can recommend here

Seriously upmarket gasto place with a casual environment. I've been there on and off over many years. Changed hands last year and got back to how it was good several years ago. If you go,say hello to Rob the manager.

Thanks All. As mentioned, hotel now booked.

But I need a restaurant in the marina area. Ideally one that isn't a chain. Itaian / fish / bistro preferred.

It’s a great place but a fair old drive from the marina.

Not a restaurant but a gastro pub - The Ginger Dog in Kemp Town, walkable from the marina.

Second the Ginger Dog if you want to walk somewhere.

The Marina is all horrible chains, and chavvy, don’t recommend any!

We have a ton of great restaurants in the town but would involve driving. Most NCPs offer an evening rate of £4.50 after 6pm though so if you’re up for driving I’m happy to give you a list of great places.
