I have no idea if the open Schengen borders are indeed open to all .
I had to go to France for work a couple of weeks ago, then onto Portugal. No questions asked at Marseille airport apart from checking I had a negative Covid test, and straight out of the door in Lisbon.abzmike said:
So all the fuss about green, amber and red lists in the UK is background noise. Once again we are the sick man of Europe, and they don’t want us travelling there. Top marks to UK Gov.
Technically its not the UK government that’s causing that issue its our scientists finding numerous variants. However Germany (and no doubt most European countries) are currently seeing a big increase in the Delta variant https://www.dw.com/en/coronavirus-digest-germany-w... I expect by the time we are allowed to travel there will be nowhere to travel too as they will be having their 3rd wave. I’m at the point of cancelling our European holiday this year I’ve got 4 weeks to cancel but will likely give it 3, I live in hope but I’m extremely doubtful.

Today I drove into Italy from France to buy cigarettes......no one at the small border, no one checking, no one to be seen. Either way.
I wonder if it might have been a different matter had you used either of the 2 tunnels , Mont Blanc or Frejus ?I have no idea if the open Schengen borders are indeed open to all .
Were you in a UK reg car ?

If you're driving on holiday in England during the school holidays, book your place in the traffic jam now and plan your route so you don't need to turn right across the flow. Also for HGV drivers, please try to stay on your wheels not on your side on a busy junction (Dorset today)
Saw that yestetday... WTF was he doing? ecsrobin said:

I don't understand this criticism. Are you saying that if our scientists had not identified the Delta variant in India, then not one else would have found it? I can get a week in Crete flying from Exeter on 18th August for three of us for £1200. What do you reckon? Worth a punt?
What's the worse that can happen? Fly home early to avoid traffic light change or deal with the quarantine when it happens? It will either be green or amber by then, not red unless there's a global disaster.

We've got Naxos booked first two weeks of August, booked it last Christmas.
Girlfriend works for the NHS and is desperate for a break. Desperate enough that now she's changed her view slightly and is prepared for quarantine if necessary.

Jet 2 have held onto our money for 2 separate flights to Portugal - they won’t respond to us. As an alternative to hopefully getting a refund, we looked to book Crete for September 2022 (just in case) - 2 return flights from Newcastle - £1,000😳😳😳. Clearly they’re trying to recoup the lost revenue! What's the worse that can happen? Fly home early to avoid traffic light change or deal with the quarantine when it happens? We have now begun the great Easyjet refund merry go-round.
Flights to Malaga already moved from last year and the holiday they were planned for no longer exists. They're website is hideously misleading in terms of what will be refunded and what won't. I assume no one else has had any luck along these lines?
Moving it does us no good at all as we've no future plans or need to fly with them

I'd be extremely surprised if you manage to get a refund if the flights are running but you don't want to go - usually you'll only get one if they cancel the flights.Flights to Malaga already moved from last year and the holiday they were planned for no longer exists. Seems mad considering the official government advice is not to travel. Problem is the villa we’re supposed to be going to is no longer there, the people we’re travelling with aren’t going and we’ve got a grands worth of EasyJet flights that are of zero use to us now. Even if we did go, isolation on return isn’t an option for my wife working in the NHS.
Very st all around and I’m going to be pissed watching that money get pissed away.

It’s not a criticism I was pointing out to the poster I was replying to that it’s not always UK gov’s vault and that it is effecting other countries we just got it sooner. The Leaper said:
Surely this has nothing to do with EasyJet. There is nothing to stop them from flying, and nothing to stop you yet you have decided not to travel. The "st" is the result of your decision. If EasyJet cancel the flight you'd be due a refund.

You mean besides the global pandemic? Besides the official government advice not to travel? Besides the government requirement of self isolation that we cannot meet?
I suspect you won’t see it this way though so no worries.

Result!! Finally after my wife managed to get through to Jet 2, 1 hour 25 minutes later we now have refunds for both return flights. They didn’t really have a leg to stand on as she had screen shotted the message stating “as your flight is prior to 15th July, your flight will not be operating” - that was for the 7th July flight but we had previously booked for 28th June which they’d cancelled anyway. We had 5 return flights to Pisa booked for 14th July, returning 28th July.
Decided not to travel mainly because it would have cost us nearly £1000 in tests and isolating on return would be very difficult.
They are with Ryanair and they offer free flight change but only if you change to flights before the end of the year.
Already booked for Turkey Oct halt term so decided to do 4 nights in Rome beginning of December.
Not ideal but with kids holidays, exams, my work, wife's work etc.. it was the best option.
At least there won't be huge queues at the places that are open
Booked a decent hotel close to the centre which we can cancel late if necessary.
Our summer hols now are a few 2-3 night stays at our place in Cromer between AirBNB guests starting the first weekend in July.
Can't complain.
