This sums up a lot of this thread:
www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/news/16-reasons-travel-...
It’s not about a virus. I was going to say ‘anymore’ but I don’t think it’s been about a virus since very early on in the first lockdown when Johnson and co. realised what exceptional powers and money making opportunities they now had. They certainly don’t want their special powers to end. www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/news/16-reasons-travel-...
I notice Merkel did a u-turn today on a massive lockdown over Easter because the people said no. Nothing to do with a virus then or she would have gone ahead.
Also, I'm not sure I understand how you think these "exceptional powers and money making opportunities" exist when many people aren't allowed to work, and businesses are failing globally.
Does the tinfoil hat scratch your head your head when you're wearing it?
And possibly manufacturers of tin foil

It was the issuing of contracts worth billions, without undertaking normal pre-contracting procedures, to their mates which is now the subject of various court cases, to which I was referring. All well documented in the press. No doubt Boris and his mates, as their predecessors have done, will end up on the Boards of these companies once they leave office with very lucrative contracts. It’s what a lot of politicians do.
To the other responders, these are facts not conspiracy theories, and nothing to do with tin foil or 5G.
Sorry, misread your post!To the other responders, these are facts not conspiracy theories, and nothing to do with tin foil or 5G.

Looks like they have closed the loophole to visit Spain, to buy or maintain a property.
Do you have a link for that please? Just Spain or anywhere? My whole summer depends on this as a solo traveller!

Welshy are you actually ill or something? I don’t think posting here is helping whatever it is.
Can you honestly not understand that someone like you won’t enjoy a foreign holiday at the moment but someone else who perceives the risk and hassle differently to you might enjoy it and be able to relax and have fun?
It’s not that it’s more or less risky (assuming you’re not more or less vulnerable it’s about to different people it’s about perception of risk and whether we’d enjoy it or not.
You obviously wouldn’t enjoy it, we get it. Nobody is forcing you or trying to get you to go anywhere so just move on be happy with your decision and come back for next year’s summer holidays thread.
I’ll quote the original post of the thread - it’s not specific about U.K. or overseas holidays. “ So, who's making plans for summer holidays at the moment?
Do we think they'll be able to happen?
I'm tentatively hoping that an Easter driving trip will be possible! What are the chances do we think? ”

Yes we have the Indian variant, then they’ll be another variant and yet another. That’s how the virus mutates.
You may want to stay at home for rest of your life, I do not.
Not this argument again. Please! We’ve had at least a page of thread without it. You may want to stay at home for rest of your life, I do not.
Should we have another thread entitled “no summer holidays 2021” for welshbeef and any others that want to stay at home in the rain?

It’s easy to spot!
BTW I answered my own question from the other thread:
‘’you can travel to Croatia for up to 90 days in any 180-day period without a visa. This applies if you travel as a tourist.’’

Yes. You can stay for longer if you apply for temporary residence though. BTW I answered my own question from the other thread:

Not your typical list of holiday destinations. It’s bks. The government don’t want anyone going away this year.
I’d sell a kidney to get away for a bit. It’s been a rough couple of years. Hoping the Caribbean opens up soon.
Correct the govt don’t - they want the millions who usually go away to stay in U.K. and holiday here spending money here helping out our economy and maybe prevent millions out of work when furlough ends. I’d sell a kidney to get away for a bit. It’s been a rough couple of years. Hoping the Caribbean opens up soon.

If that’s the case, it’s too little too late. Loads of people and small businesses have already gone bust due to having had no support whatsoever. If the government cared about every citizen and business they would not have let anyone be excluded from support.
If they have gone bust someone buys up the business as is / starts a new one and go again. No sympathy for personal bankruptcies either? People on good incomes previously but excluded from support?

Absolute nonsense in a lot of cases. Hospitality business goes just last year for instance. Who buys it? No one as it’s not allowed to trade.

Just ignore the nonsense. No sympathy for personal bankruptcies either? People on good incomes previously but excluded from support?

The posts from a couple of posters are well worth ignoring but overall I think the thread is ok.

I like to think that the government are working closely with the airline industry to give them a heads up regarding potential changes to the approved lists and dates for countries to move status.....I think that in reality that's not happening, as such I take cancelled flights etc. with a big pinch of salt as we all know that flights can be ramped up very quickly.
Looking at the statistics for Spain, I think the very beginning of June is optimistic for a move onto the Green list (87.3 / 100k, 30% / 13% 1st / 2nd doses) but they are showing a steady decline so potentially mid to late June.
The candidate I think more likely for a move onto the Green list at the first review is Malta (quite strange they've not been included with Portugal initially, but anyway).

Just thought I’d require the first post - it’s odd that posters now some 127 pages in so not want to address or hear about the second question OP raised. Do we think they'll be able to happen?
I'm tentatively hoping that an Easter driving trip will be possible! What are the chances do we think?
So we will continue to do so as this is 1/3rd of the threads existence and requirement. Unless OP edits that original piece to cut out or state we don’t want to hear about any new restrictions - which would be extremely odd.

Very busy in West Cornwall today. I had to deliver to a customer in Falmouth, and then a trip to Truro to visit mum.
Worst traffic I've seen since summer 2019, probably not helped by the G7 preparations - closed carparks, etc.
I had a look at what the plans are for G7. Big security cordons around Carbis Bay/St. Ives, the docks end of Falmouth, and Newquay Airport. Road closures, ID required for residents, car parks closed. 27 mile detour around the airport because Watergate bay is closed off. St. Ives branch line will be closed, as will the Park and Ride. Cruise ship berthed in Falmouth as temporary accommodation for the police (5000 in total!), so the roads across country between Falmouth and Carbis Bay will be full of shuttle buses.
Proper nightmare with this all happening just as the half term holiday will be ending.
I think I'll stay at home for the next 2 weeks.
All I can say is I hope they all quarantine when they arrive in the country... fat chance... essential business and all that...Worst traffic I've seen since summer 2019, probably not helped by the G7 preparations - closed carparks, etc.

You gotta love our Government, have the G7 Summit in the UK when we can’t travel anywhere so let’s f*ck up a key UK staycation area.
Just as the weather gets warmer as well.
Before anybody declares that the logistical planning takes 5 years’ minimum why can’t they just ruin / save the world via video conference and / or switch to whatever contingency plan / location would be swung into place should we find Novichock on every lamppost in Cornwall.
Somewhere in the Nordics feels like a better bet. Smaller local population to disrupt and everyone just jets in on dedicated (military) transport.
Instead why not ban Brits from going abroad (or at least ban Brits from arriving) and then take out a couple of prime summer staycation weeks from the calendar so that G7 can work put if they’re going to war with China or not over laboratory Covid 19… (there’s a leap, from holidays 2021 to lab produced Covid 19)

Why not put India on the red list sooner? Because BoJo was off on a trade jolly there.
Sadly with the above examples, and umpteen rule breaches my members of government over the last year, the concept of leading by example doesn’t seem to exist.
