Apparently, Mexico is being considered for the green list.

Tempted for a cheeky two week trip at the end of summer.

There ought to be a whole load of countries on the list before Mexico IMHO.

Hopefully there WILL be Mexico and a whole load of others on the green list though.

Personally I can’t see it before U.K. freedom day but fingers crossed loads more green (not difficult at the moment) for the summer holidays 2021

Until this is fact it is difficult to plan anything, plus will there be a reciprocal arrangement in the country you plan to travel to?

Binned our French holiday yesterday before we had to pay the final balance on the campsite. My wife and I are now double vaccinated, but our 18-year old daughter has only had one dose, and won't have her second before we travel.

Yelloh were fine with this and returned our deposit without question, and wished us a happy summer in the UK.

Brittany Ferries have moved our booking until next year, I didn't try to cancel, or get money back, as we will most likely be going next year anyway, and bookings for 2022 are starting to fill-up. The overnight stopover hotel in St Malo we always use were fine and hoped we would be back soon.

A sad day :-(
This does indeed suck. The annoying thing is that we managed a holiday season of sorts last year with no vaccinations!

Chasing zero cases is just going to result in loss of the ability to travel longer term. I saw on the news someone in Partliament with some sense on the back benches pointed out that we are moving towards existing when we want to be living that really does ring true.

If you look at the potential for new variants springing up over this winter the situation with Covid is never going to be better than it is today or in a few weeks when a substantial portion of the UK and EU are vaccinated. We will spend every year them chasing and vaccinating against new strains. Was glad to hear Bozza acknowledge that we must learn to live with it. If you have to have a mask on the plane so be it but we need to unlock and just crack on now.

I'm starting to come round to the belief we create a lot of the issue ourselves here by having such good handle on the cases and we monitor the numbers really very closely.

If you look at somewhere like Mexico a country with double the population thats been ravaged by Covid and seem to not really do any of the measures we have in place (large scale events are on etc) they only admit or have tested for 2.4 million cases although 230k deaths which is about the same number related to population as we have had. Still you would have to assume that is an under count. It's hard to know really but the point is that right now they are cracking on without anything close to the vaccination levels we have.

Just can't see how Mexico can go green before a whole load others either. If they move ahead with the no quarantine on 2 jabs for amber, I can see them leaving things pretty much as they are, with very few added to green.

Hi Jon,

Assume from "some on the back benches" you don't mean our former PM Theresa May, but she spoke well on the subject IMO

Re Mexico , the beaches are covered in masses of sea weed at present.

People from the rest of Wales already use those airports so nothing would change there. Cardiff is the only international airport in Wales and would lose out to Bristol was my point.

The beer’s still cold and the sun hot. Getting sand in your arse crack is overrated anyhow.

Is this some new (stinking) sea weed bloom or are they just not clearing it up?

https://thepointsguy.com/news/1119558/

Just read up about it. I’ve seen this before, I think it gets bad in the Dominican Republic too sometimes. If you go along the beach at sunrise you see all the workers piling it up in mountains and clearing it up, obviously it still washes in on the tide though.

There's a Mexican Facebook group - red de monitorera del sargazo de quintina roo.

Every day they upload pictures and compile a map of where's worse .

I think the last few years something's happened with the sea temperature thats helping the seaweed grow because despite hotel staff doing a sterling effort the seaweeds never ending.

Thet even tried using the Mexican navy to stop it !

How is the barrier going? They had just started building it when we were there two years ago. I'm guessing with Mexico time it's not moved on very far

Also full of influencers, covid ridden backpackers, party people etc.

Honestly quite surprised it's being considered for the Green list.

My ex has been travelling around there for the past 6 months. According to her, there are 0 restrictions.

Virgin/Delta are launching their digital covid passport thingy in the next few weeks which is hopefully an indication that UK-USA travel will be back on from late summer.

Apparently its going to link up your vaccine status and your covid testing results to cut down on delays at check in.

Just reading up on France for this summer. It looks like, as we are both double vaccinated, we and the children should have no problems going to France this summer and won't even have to quarantine on arrival.

Even allowing for 5 days to quarantine returning to the UK, looks like we're on for 7 weeks in the Dordogne

The best thing about Mexico is the Cenotes anyway. Echoing those on the thread I would be stunned if it was being considered for green list considering its position compared to many countries.

Yeah, feeling more optimistic for our annual jaunt to the Dordogne…

Mrs has been on at me to “just cancel it” for while so I’m on standby for maximum smug mode.
